I am a highly qualified private tutor, experienced in tutoring students at a wide range of levels. In addition to improving grades, I've taken the fear out of maths and physics.
I teach maths and physics, ranging from KS3 level to A-levels. I also tutor physics-based subjects, such as astronomy and some undergraduate engineering modules.
My highest qualification is a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in computational fluid dynamics. I also have a Masters Degree in Aerospace Engineering and a PGCE in Secondary Education Mathematics.
The service I provide gives you much more than just the hour of tuition time. Tutoring is my full time profession, so I am able to put all my time and effort into getting the most out of my students.
I tutor both face-to-face and online. They both have their advantages and it's a very personal choice. I have been tutoring online for about two years now and it has become very popular. For online tuition, I use the online whiteboard, Scribblar or BitPaper, along with Skype. To find out how to use Scribblar and what it can do, please visit the 'Online Tuition' tab on my website. The page also looks at the differences between online tuition and face-to-face tuition, so you can decide what's best for you.
Please note that face-to-face tuition is only available at my home. I have all my resources here and due to time constraints it is just not practical for me to travel.
I am available 11:30 am - 9:30 pm from Monday to Thursday and on Sundays. I am also available during school holidays, with the exception of the Christmas holiday and have limited availability during the summer holiday.
I began teaching in 2005, whilst working towards my PGCE, and began tutoring in 2007, as a postgraduate. Once I had completed my PhD in 2011 I decided to tutor full time, and have been running a successful tutoring business since. My approach varies considerably depending upon the student and I pride myself on my ability to adapt. I am always friendly, patient and understanding. This is vital for maths and sciences, as they often cause distress to students at school and to adult learners, alike.
I have an enhanced CRB certificate from my time as a secondary school teacher.
GCSE Astronomy is £45 per hour.
Undergraduate engineering is £75 per hour.
• MEng Aerospace Engineering
• PhD Mechanical Engineering

As a parent, I could not be happier with Clare's private tuition. Clare is absolutely brilliant. In just over a year she has got my daughter from a grade B in maths to a "gifted and talented set". That takes not only extraordinary teaching skills but commitment and powerful knowledge about learning and motivation. There is no doubt in our minds that we want to stay with her for years to come. This is a testament of a very impressed mother.
I would really recommend Clare as a tutor. She is very professional, has excellent subject and curriculum knowledge and is patient and calm. My daughter needed help regarding the new 9-1 grading for GCSE's and with Clare's excellent tutoring gained a 9 – wonderful.
I was struggling to find a tutor that could help me with the American SAT exam, then I came across Clare who was more than happy to go through everything with me and convert the material into a way I would understand. I took the information on a lot easier with her help and would not have been able to achieve the score I needed to get me into the college I wanted to go to without her help. She has extensive knowledge throughout maths and is a great person to get along with I fully recommend her tutoring.
