I have found over my experiences of being taught, and then eventually teaching, that the best method for getting the most out of a student is to listen. If the tutor is acutely aware of where their student needs help and where they are already confidant they can tailor classes carefully to make the best use of the time allowed and to get the maximum potential out of them. This philosophy leads to classes being student-oriented, in that they lead the tuition. The tutor acts as a supportive crutch, first working through problems together, then allowing them to explore it themselves with the tutor to lean back on.
In my first years of training, like many others, I completed grades and that is how my teachers and I measured my progress. Because of this I have a very good knowledge of what it takes to move up this system. However, the grade system should not be seen as the only way to learn an instrument. The same achievement can be gained through simple discussion between student and teacher and the correct prescription of pieces and studies to work on. I am more than happy to walk down whatever avenue they wish to explore.
I am happy to take on anyone from beginners to more advanced players and can promise I will try my best to support you in your learning.
I am a 20 year old guitarist from Greenwich, London. I have been playing guitar since I was five and have grown to be adept at all varieties of the instrument, including, classical, acoustic, electric and bass.
I am studying for a performance degree in classical guitar at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and also play in different rock-oriented groups that have toured around the UK. I am currently being taught by Graham Devine and have taken part in and attended masterclasses by David Russell, Roberto Aussell, Craig Ogden and many others.
Regarding my previous experience in tutoring, I have given many hours of guitar tuition during my years of study but am now looking to start forming a career for myself in music education. I have also spent time tutoring A-level students in Psychology. These experiences have given me a keen sense of how to motivate students and offer them concise and useful advice. I truly hope each of my students leave with a greater sense of confidence in their ability and a deeper love for the guitar.
