- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach Singing and General Musicianship.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have no formal training but my choral and solo background as both a chorister and since, has given me a lot of experience in how the voice works and the way the voice needs to be treated in order to progress well in conjunction with the natural development of the body. I also hold Grade 8 Piano and Violin so am able to accompany students.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £20.00hr for all students and there are no extra fees for travel. I prefer to keep groups to a minimum although I would accept up to 3 pupils at any one time.
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at the student's home as this is mostly more convenient for them. I am based in Norwich from September 2010, although during the 'school' holidays I will be in London for the majority of the time.
- When are you available?
I am largely flexible about when I teach although the weekends are the most convenient time. If not then, before 4pm during the week.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
As much of my experience comes through working with younger voices, I teach mostly 8-18 year olds of all abilities. Adults who are interested in starting singing lessons, and learning some basics are also very welcome!
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I have always felt that singing is a fantastic way for a person to show their emotions through music. As a young singer myself I believe that development at an early age can be helpful later on, and my aim is to provide young singers with a starting block to further both their enjoyment and potential and confidence in their ability.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I was a chorister in the choir of St John's College Cambridge from the age of 8-13. This gave me access to a wealth of wonderful music and also the unique vocal and musical training that being part of such a fantastic ensemble inevitably brings. Furthermore, by singing so much at a young age I am very much aware of how a young voice needs to be looked after and trained in order for it to give the best rewards. More recently I have continued to pursue singing seriously and have appeared as a soloist at the London Handel Festival. I am also a member of the Rodolfus Choir, that nurtures some of the countries most promising young singers.
