I am a college student who has been a peer mentor, maths mentor and prefect for Primary and Secondary school students. I have experience working with children and helping them to achieve the best of their ability. In regards to reading, I generally encourage the pupils to choose a book they are interested in to read to me with. I then help them with any pronunciation difficulties they may have and repeat this multiple times until they are confident and happy with it. However, if this is not suitable for the individual pupil I will adapt lessons to which will benefit them.
I have previously been a maths and literacy mentor to groups of children from the ages of 5 to 14. These sessions occurred once a week for around 6 months over a 3 year period. I have helped children become more confident in their English and Maths skills due to working at their own pace. This proved beneficial and many were advanced to higher groups after taking part in these sessions and have gone on to achieve great SATs and GCSE results.
At GCSE, I received A grades in Maths and English. I also gained A*'s in Business Studies, History, Food Technology and French. At the moment, I am currently studying Law, Psychology and History at A Level. I have work experience at a primary school where I helped and encouraged the children to read to me individually to expand their vocabulary and increase their confidence in their speaking.
