Firstly, having a clear understanding of the student's course specification and requirements is really important. Every language board and paper is different and therefore it is vital that the student knows exactly what the examiners are looking for in order to tick those boxes.
However, students should also think for themselves and show flair and independence in their work, by ensuring a deep-rooted knowledge of the vocabulary, grammar or whatever the focus might be. When it comes to grammar tutorials, explanations and essay techniques etc., I like to tutor with a clear structure to categorise information in a way that the student will take in easily.
I have a strong belief in transparent communication with the student. If I understand truthfully what area they feel least confident in or whether they would prefer a different method of tutoring, I can help the student prepare for their exams on a much more meaningful level and tailor my sessions according to their specific needs. I will also prepare my lessons using resources like past papers, practice questions, Spanish-speaking role play and a variety of vocabulary exercises, as these will be key in determining the student's progress from session to session.
Language learning takes patience and persistence, so I am determined to see the student through their exam preparation and excited to see their confidence increase along with their Spanish skills.
I am a university student of Spanish and Italian. I have tutored Spanish to a wide range of ages, from 10 to 17. I also worked on a kids summer camp in the north of Spain, teaching film skills and running activities. I also write political articles for the university’s Italian magazine and have worked on multiple short films as an assistant director. In the past I have enjoyed doing extensive research into periods of Spanish history, both colonial and contemporary.
