With beginner students I usually start with the absolute basics. Drawing the piano, and writing in the notes. The books I've found students enjoy the most are John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course, and I usually recommend purchasing this. It's great for combining basic theory with easy playing. Some students move on to buy the John Thompson pop music book, and there are other great books by them as well.
Mimi Jasson is a pianist from Toronto, Canada and graduated from the BMus Music program at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2017, with a first in performance. She is classically trained, but also specializes in contemporary piano works, most recently with performances of Relent by Graham Fitkin, 3 Preludes by Laurence Crane and Piano Piece IV by Frederic Rzewski. She also managed and played pieces for a contemporary composers collective, and a group of pianists, whom performed exclusively multi-keyboard works (ie: Steve Reich: Six Pianos). Mimi has had masterclasses with Graham Fitkin, Laurence Crane, Andrew Zolinsky and Danny Driver regarding research and playing contemporary works. In December 2017, Mimi and colleague Francis Devine, performed the London premiere of Graham Fitkin's double piano concerto, Circuit. She now teaches privately and in a secondary school in London.
