- Do you have a personal message for students?
Time and time again I hear singers talk about years of lessons with little or no progression and a lot of wasted money!! I strongly believe that each person requires individual training tailored to their specific needs as a vocalist/performer. Through building a solid technique anyone can become the singer that they want to be. What's the secret? There IS no secret! All I need is your commitment to changing your voice for the better for GOOD! Check out my vocal instructional videos on my website to get a taster of the training you will be getting.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been lucky enough to work with, and learn from the world's best voice teachers. My journey as a vocal coach began working with Brett Manning in Nashville, Tennessee where I became a Brett Manning Associate vocal coach. While in Nashville I worked with some of the best commercial vocal coaches in the world and spent time in the recording studio with artists working on albums with Grammy Award nominated producers. Over the years, I have also worked with Tom Burke (New York SLP, Estill CCI, Fitzmaurice Voicework® Associate) Maureen Scott, Gillyanne Kayes and Jeremy Fisher, Ron Morris and classically with Ann De Renais and the Maestro himself, David Jones in New York. I now have an established private practice where I teach one on one. I also have experience teaching vocal technique to pop/rock/musical theatre choirs.
As a performer, since graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (Now RCS), I have been a working actor/singer and appeared in productions such as the national tour of Dundee Rep's Sunshine on Leith (The Proclaimers Musical) and most recently the European tour of Evita (Bill Kenwright Ltd.) I know what it's like to be a touring performer/singer and can relate to the difficulties in maintaining your voice through long rehearsal processes and performance schedules in many countries all over the world.
I teach Voice for Actors using Catherine Fiztmaurice's Voicework®. This is a holistic way of training the voice which centres around the body, breathing, movement, emotion and the connection from impulse to expression.
I teach acting using the Meisner technique at the Actors Temple on Warren Street and from home privately. This is a nuts and bolts way of building an acting technique from simple human connection to highly complex scenes in a truthful, emotionally full way.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

“I've been having singing lessons with Craig for several years now and have found his support and guidance invaluable. During this time I've witnessed huge improvements in my my range, resonance and breath control and never fail to be astonished by his tireless enthusiasm, passion and commitment to both his students and his craft. I would highly recommend him to anyone, beginner or advanced, who wants to see tangible results from their voice lessons whilst also having lots of fun!”
“I have gained so much more control and release with my voice. I used to watch in awe when singers sounded so powerful with such great resonance and yet look like it was no effort at all! It only took 3 lessons to notice a real sense of freedom and development in my voice! I was very sceptical about my abilities before but Craig has a way of knowing what you're capable of before you do! You know you're with the right person when they can play your instrument better than you can!”
“From the first lesson my whole attitude and approach to how I warm up and sing is totally different. I no longer stress about whether I will be able to sing come gig time, I just do the exercises, go to the gig and start singing! I can hear and feel a noticeable improvement in my voice and feel like I am actually singing the songs rather than simply talking or shouting them in tune. Plus you will always get a good laugh and be put at ease with Craig on each lesson!”
