I offer editing and proofreading for prose works of fiction in any genre, though fantasy is my speciality, having been the focus of my undergraduate dissertation (see CV below). I edit and annotate the writer's work, and then provide feedback in a workshop. Feedback is inclusive of content, format and structure editing, as well as grammar, spelling and punctuation line-editing.
If the writer lives too far to make a face to face session practicable, the option for feedback to be sent electronically is available. Zoom/Skype/Microsoft Teams workshops are also available.
The first workshop may need to be an assessment of the writer's editing/proofreading requirements.
Feedback workshops 45-60 minutes. Workshop cost includes any required editing outside of the workshop. Sometimes, for larger projects, a daily rate of £150 is more suitable.
One of our best tutors! High-quality profile, qualifications verified and response guaranteed. Ross will plan your first lesson with care.
I am a creative and critical writer and editor at the University of Gloucestershire (BA, MA). I founded and co-edit Superlative, The Short Story Literary Journal, which develops and publishes new and aspiring writers.
I am a professional member of The National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE), through which I attend regular writing conferences and have access to the latest writing in education materials.
I am also regularly published in journals, magazines and ezines, online and in print, and provide editing services for others published in the same and similar forums. I enjoy educating; I guest lecture on Creative Writing Courses at other colleges and have a level 4 education and training teaching qualification awarded by Edexcel.
Writers are welcome to travel to me (no cost), or to have workshops via webcam (no cost - most popular option).
I am happy to travel to writers; a £10 travel cost will apply to writers who live up to 10 miles away, with an additional £2.50 for every 5 miles thereafter.
Block of 5 workshops, paid in advance, £27/hour – total £135.
Block of 10 workshops, paid in advance, £25/hour – total £240.
Daily rate (where applicable) £150/day.
