I tutor KS1 AND KS2 children in English literacy- literature and language and I create my own resources and lesson plans. As a writer, I offer bonus creative writing sessions at a negotiable rate. These sessions focus on encouraging self-expression and imagination through writing, and this also enables the children to engage with literacy in a way they feel more comfortable and connected to the English language.
My first approach to teaching and learning is making sure the students are confident in themselves. Confidence is key to learning, and without this key, children can be prevented from reaching their full potential. I have developed skills to engage children who lack confidence and are shy or anxious. The other component which goes hand-in-hand with confidence is passion. All children have a passion for something. The trick is to find that passion, and tailor their learning around it to draw their attention to the subject they need to work on, and get them learning without them even realising.
I have several years of teaching experience from participating in 'reading buddy' schemes while at school, to teaching assistant roles, and I have 3.5 years of one-to-one tutoring experience. I have successfully increased levels of confidence in my students who needed the self belief to learn and develop above and beyond expectation. I have also worked with hyperactive children and taught them in ways which encourage a calmer and productive persona while learning, without the need for critical analysis of their behaviour.
Most of my experience is with young children between the ages of 2 and 11, but I can tutor at any age and level.
