My teaching method is practice based. I try to incorporate as much activity as possible in my lessons. I think we learn best by figuring things out for ourselves - so my aim is often to push the student in the direction of their own discovery - to be encouraging and ask the right questions.
For me education is all about switching people on - illuminating a subject as well as grasping its content. I believe that if I can help a student to be interested in the topic at hand, then I’ve done something for them as people as well as for their academic success. I try to do this by incorporating broader ideas from the arts & humanities within my lesson plan. I’m a reliable and well organised worker used to professional practices and working with young people.

Voluntary Teaching Assistant
One-to-one and classroom support for pupils ages 11-16 in helping to develop academic skills to increase both their understanding and their grades. I worked extensively with a few students with behavioural problems helping them to focus on the task at hand and apply the understanding they had shown in person to their written work. I had particularly good rapport with some very shy students in whom I tried to encourage delicately and also with what I considered the naughty table - a group of students that were all very behind in whom I noticed as I complimented the work of one, the others seemed to be a little jealous. So I began to compare their work explaining that it was simply that more effort had gone into the better work. The teacher I worked with later told me I had bumped up several grades from Ds to Bs.
