Current History Student at Durham University offering to teach English and History

Methodology

My teaching method would be centred around a friendly, supportive approach, encouraging a mutual listening and learning relationship between myself and the student in order to ensure they succeed in the areas they struggle with.
I would also look at the specifics of their curriculum in order to ensure academic growth is focused to achieve the best possible outcome for their future.

Background

I am a current Durham University student looking to help others achieve outstanding academics. Whilst I have not officially tutored before, I have always thrived in helping others within the humanities subjects and enjoy giving practical advice in a subject I am fascinated by.

Beth's CV

As a friendly and approachable current university student, I am looking for a new challenge to compliment my course. University has strengthened both my qualities as an individual and my communication with others, both written and verbal. Demanding me to quickly build relationships, be flexible to demands and manage myself independently I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience so far. Having acquired these skills, I am looking forward to bringing them to a new work environment such as tutoring, a task I deem myself capable of due to my enthusiasm, desire to teach others and learn myself and undertake new responsibilities.

Education
Durham University 2017- Present
I am currently studying at Durham university going into my second year as a History BA student. My grade at the end of first year was a 2:1, an achievement I am proud of.
Furthermore, the modules I have chosen reflect a keen interest in different cultures. I believe this will help me work with a variety of different people as to build relationships requires an understanding of the diversity of people’s backgrounds. Appreciating diversity helps build successful communication which is a vital skill in any workplace.
The independent study required on my course has strengthened my time-management and organisation skills.
Heaton Manor Sixth Form 2015-2017
I achieved the grades A*AA in psychology, history and English literature respectively.
My academic success reflects my hard work, but I was also well integrated into the sixth form and held a job within the school to enable me to travel around Europe after my A levels.
Heaton Manor School 2009-2017
I achieved the grades A*A*A*A*A*A*AAAAAAC in my GCSEs, these include an A in maths and an A* in English language.

Employment
Break time supervisor at Heaton Manor 2015-2017
Key responsibilities:
o First point of contact between the pupils and staff during breaktime.
o Being flexible to the demands of catering staff.
o Safeguarding pupils and being primary outdoor representative of the school.
o Maintaining appearance of, and locking up, outdoor areas.
My first role involved organising pupils into appropriate ques and letting them into the lunch hall at a manageable rate for the staff. As I was the mediator between catering staff and pupils it meant I had to develop a strong relationship between the two as well as being flexible to demands.
My second role involved monitoring the outdoor area during breaktime, including sports pitches. Once more I dealt with a wide range of ages of pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds. I developed my relationships with both pupils and school staff to become the only school representative in the outdoor area with the pupils. As a result, my communication skills were strengthened by the diplomacy exercised in preventing fights between pupils as well as directing them in events such as injury. I was also given the responsibility of locking the grounds at the end of the shift.

Volunteering
As a well-integrated member of the school team I used the platform to organise fundraising events for charity. Alongside another pupil, we proposed the ideas for, organised and ran numerous after school and in school events such as concerts that raised up to five hundred pounds each.

Extra-Curricular
A prime example of my ability to successfully work in a team and communicate effectively was my sixth form role as part of a nationally competing ultimate frisbee team.
