Dan - Teddington - Songwriting


With 20 years experience teaching beginners, hobbyists and professionals. I aim for you to rapidly improve your level, structured lessons are tailored to your musical taste while referring to established repertoire and graded pieces.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach Acoustic / Electric Guitar, Singing, Bass, Beginners Piano, Production and the Music Business.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

BMus performance; Thames Valley University 1999. Here I enjoyed three years playing Rock, Pop, Soul, Blues, Jazz with performances weekly and at Concert Halls including Wembley Conference centre and The Barbican. Having trained as a professional educator, I take courses every year, and focus on always providing a high quality learning experience.

- How much do you charge?

Your first lesson is free! Lessons are 45 minutes at £37.00, or 60 minutes at £47. Lessons are discounted when ten are booked. Group lesson fees differ depending on number of students in the group, however work out more economically for each individual. Extra fees apply for lessons driving to you.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at home in Teddington at my studio TW11 8NL. I am an online tutor available for lessons by facetime/skype.

- When are you available?

I am available weekdays, evenings, and saturdays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach age 6 and up. Adult beginners to advanced. Debut, hobbyists and more serious alike are welcome. Trinity, Rockschool and ABRSM grades can be taken.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

Rockschool RSL grades 1-6 Guitar Bass and Vocals 1-6
RGT Acoustic Guitar 1-6
Trinity and ABRSM classical Guitar and Voice.
Piano grade 1-3

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

FaceTime, Skype and Windows Live online lessons are available.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I will identify the technical aspects that will help you develop fast as a musician, and encourage you in your daily practice, focusing on you achieving your musical goals. Learn from a long list of disciplines: Hybrid picking, Finger style, Legato Soloing, Chord tapping, Sweep, Tremelo, Slap Bass, Theory.
Styles of Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Soul, Funk. Improvisation, Sight reading, Transcribing.
Voice technique, support Laryngeal Coordination, Placement Resonance, Distortion, for all styles of singing. Grades can be taken on all instruments.
Whatever you want to learn is considered in structuring your lesson.


- What kind of experience do you have?

I have 20 years experience in teaching, I have also played professionally at concerts, sessions and corporate functions. Entertainers I have worked with and alongside recently include Eddie Izzard, Tony Hadley, Killer queen, Sir Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey, The Mystery Jets, Mother Earth, Sham 69, The Tailormade.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

My DBS certificate is up to date, 2017-18.

- Where and with whom did you train?

London College of Music 1999, The Guitar Institute/Vocal tech/Bass tech 1998.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

The Musician's Union.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I teach 40 regular weekly student slots. I encourage students to develop rapidly for their own pleasure, concerts, grades, and even commercial success with bands. Hobbyists dusting off their guitars for singing or playing campfire songs.
