The last school that I taught at was The Lady Eleanor Holles School. My 100% success rate speaks for itself. When I take on a new student, I am extremely committed to them to get them through the exams.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I have experience and success in teaching all primary subjects, including all entrance exams. This academic year, I have tutored children for LEH, Hampton, Kings College, RGS, KGS, Notre Dame, Reading Blue Coats, Wimbledon High, Surbiton High, Sir William Perkins, St. Georges and Wickham Abbey.
My 10+ children were accepted into the schools of their choice. All of my 7+, 8+ and 11+ children have been accepted through to first round of exams and are now waiting for the results of the interview (UPDATE: my 7+ LEH children all got through and my 8+ St Paul's children got through) I supply all of my own resources and prepare each tuition session beforehand. I tutor on a one-to-one basis because I believe in a completely personalised approach. Usually my sessions are an hour long, but for older children this can be extended. I provide a very homely environment and give lots of pastoral support in addition to academic support. Both go hand in hand for academic success.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
English BA and PGCE
I have management experience as a Leader of Learning and as an Assistant Head Teacher. I have also taught in both the state school sector and the private school sector, including The Lady Eleanor Holles School, all of which I have equally enjoyed. I am aware that they all have very different approaches, but from experience they could enrich each other by sharing information.
I am also a published co-author and have participated in writing a book about 'teaching'. In the future I plan to write children's books as this is a passion of mine.
I have always been very competent at interviews and this comes in very useful for preparing your child for their private school interviews, as i believe that in order to boost the success of children, one must obviously be very competent in a subject or skill first.
- How much do you charge?
This includes a 100% committed tutor; one that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for additional phone discussions or extra homework if needed. I am also there to support and to be a sounding board for parents; to help advise and reassure. I am constantly in communication with parents throughout the working day. I very rarely cancel sessions and I also tutor during holiday time.
- Where do you teach?
Due to the high number of children in my yearly tutee cohort, I now only tutor from home in Walton-on-Thames. However, I can see the immeasurable benefits of this compared to going to people's houses as I have done in the past. I have all my resources to hand (I have a lot of resources!) and have purchased software that is used in the top private schools. I can completely personalise the homework based on the needs of the child and the outcome of the lesson on that specific day, instead of bringing limited resources with me to a person's home.
- When are you available?
Weekdays and weekends
School holidays based on your own school. I also conduct detailed mock exams during the holidays and ad hoc tutoring. Mock exams also offered with a detailed report and average score against other children's scores that have taken the test (confidential- no names disclosed).
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Ages 5-11 years.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
- What kind of experience do you have?
My success is attributed to making sure that tutoring is a full-time job for me. I tutor about twenty+ children on average a week. The high number of tutees means that my networking circle is extremely large and i get the latest information to make sure that all my tutees have the best opportunities.
My clients include those that are publicly well known and those from the general public. I am a 100% committed tutor; one that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for additional phone discussions or extra homework if needed. I am also there to support and to be a sounding board for parents- to help advise and reassure, to be a pastoral and academic coach as well as an effective tutor. I am constantly in communication with parents throughout the working day- we work as a team to achieve the best for your child. I very rarely cancel sessions and I also tutor during holiday time.
My current tutees are based in St. Georges Hill, Weybridge, Esher, Oxshott and the surrounding areas. In my opinion, being a teacher is crucial to being an effective tutor as I have first-hand knowledge and experience of the curriculum and a versatile approach to teaching it effectively. I have vast and varied experience and success of tutoring children for confidence, classroom support and entrance exams (7+, 8+, 10+, 11+ and 13+) and many phone and written references that could support this.
I provide all resources and prepare each tuition session beforehand, with homework to consolidate, extend or assess. Tuition sessions are completely personalised to suit your child's needs. I have tutored for entrance into a variety of schools including St. Paul's, Eton, LEH, St. Georges, Shrewsbury, Surbition High, Hampton Prep and Hampton School, Tiffin, Kingston Grammar, Reeds, Cleves, Sir William Perkins, Milbourne Lodge, Radnor House, Wickham Abbey, Marist, St. Catherines, The Mall, RCS, Reading Blue Coats, Kings College, Notre Dame and many more schools.
I have been a teacher for ten years, including a role as an Assistant Head Teacher.
As a tutor I have an extremely high success rate and have many happy and contented clients who go on to recommend me to other people, or I go on to tutor siblings. I am based in Walton. I take tutoring very seriously and expect that cancellations are only made if there is an emergency because weekly sessions need to take place for a child to progress and succeed to the best of their ability. I would advise against long holidays during the run- up to the exams. I am usually booked up quickly and would recommend being contacted as early as possible for bookings.
My latest achievement has not only been getting children accepted into the school of their choice and more, but for one of my tutees to achieve an academic scholarship to a top private school.
I would advise tuition to begin for your child at least a year before the exams to almost guarantee success. I tutor on a one-to-one basis because I believe in a completely personalised approach, unless I am conducting mock exams. Usually my sessions are an hour long, but for older children this can be extended. I provide a very homely environment (I also bake cookies and brownies for my tutees!) and give lots of pastoral support in addition to academic support. Both go hand in hand for academic success.
THE FIRST TUTORING SESSION:
The first tutoring session will be an assessment session that comes with an optional detailed report which includes the gaps and next steps of learning.
SCHOOL HOLIDAY TUTORING AND ENTRANCE EXAM MOCKS ALSO AVAILABLE. PLEASE MESSAGE FOR BOOKINGS.
