- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.
I tutor online using a professional tutoring website. This interface allows the student and I to talk, view files and annotate on a virtual whiteboard and is far superior to simply talking on Skype or exchanging instant messages. The only equipment that the student needs is a webcam and microphone (standard on most laptops).
I have up to date resources including text books, revision guides, diagrams and exam papers which can be used online.
Again, I am very happy to give a free introductory lesson for online tuition. Simply send me a quick message and we can arrange a time for the free lesson.
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have been involved in private tuition throughout my PhD for 3 years, as well as taking part in University undergraduate teaching and assignment marking. Through online tuition I have tutored students from all around the UK as well as overseas, studying for the AQA, OCR and Edexcel exam boards. I have a good understanding of the exam board specifications and requirements.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I do not have a current CRB check, however I was fully checked when working in the NHS
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently have a mixture of A-level and GCSE Biology students from around the country, as well as abroad, studying for AQA, OCR and Edexcel exams.
My students are of a broad range of abilities. Many of them will go on to get A/A* grades and study Medicine or Dentistry at University, but I also have students who will be thrilled to achieve a C grade. I always adapt my teaching to the requirements, capabilities and target grades of the student.
Some of my students also ask me for university/career advice, and I have a number of useful contacts in related fields - pharmacists, doctors, dentists and biomedical scientists. I qualified as a Biomedical Scientist which is a popular degree choice for A-level Biology students, and I am happy to advise about Biomedical Science as a degree or career option. I can also give my opinions about further study (Masters/PhD) and a career in academia for ay students who are considering that path.
