For beginners, I spend the first lesson trying to understand where their previous tutor left off so I can smoothly continue, or if they're completely new to it, I will introduce them to the piano and teach them at least one new song by the end of the lesson so they'll be encouraged to continue learning. For students with prior experience, I am quite flexible regarding the book choice because I used to teach at a music studio which used different books for different students so I adapt quite easily to it! For younger students, I don't believe in bribing them but rather, cultivating a genuine interest in learning.
I realized some of the students who came to me halfway do not have proper foundations. Most play pieces with stress fingers and wrong playing techniques which is worrying in the long run. Hence, I set a goal for myself whereby all my students should play with the correct foundations and techniques. I strive to ensure right foundation, techniques as well as correct learning and practicing techniques.
Some of the main concerns student have are the fact that most of them have no time to practice their pieces or even to practice before the next lesson. To me I believe that it is already a fact that students did not practice. But I do not want them to feel less confident as this will also hinder how they play for me during class. Confidence is something I strongly believe in and strive to build in students. I will ask them to do their best in class by slowly playing the piece, however I will encourage students to practice a little everyday. It is better to practice piano a little everyday and maybe provide me a little schedule of what they have done for the day, than to crammed all the homework load one to two days before I come for the next lesson. Finger strength and flexibility is also something students are concerned. I have my own methods in terms of tackling these problems and I believe these are not an issue as students young and old are able to learn piano.
I started piano at 4 years old and obtained my grade 5 theory at 9 years old and piano diploma (ATCL) in performance at 14 years old. I topped my cohort for Music Elective Programme in 2016, and obtained top score (40/40) for music performance in 2015. I also topped the level (performance) for two consecutive years playing as an accompaniment and as piano duos. Have performed as accompaniment for 2 of my classmates for their GCE O Level Music examinations, and they have both gotten distinctions. Was also selected as one of the performers for cocktail music at Teachers Appreciation Night and performed for patients at Alexandra Hospital in Secondary 1. Have taught 23 students ranging from beginner and intermediate grade 5, both in tuition centre and private classes.
I am also the principal euphonist in my school band, section leader and librarian in student committee, leading our band to attain the highest score in the history of our band's competitions in National Band Competition 2017 and Gold in Singapore Youth Festival 2018.
I will be available for face to face lessons from September 2021 onwards. I will charge a travelling fee of 10 pounds per lesson.

Tanya is very patient and really takes the time to make sure that you understand the topic. She also tries to make learning interesting through different analogies and practices, so that it is easier to remember concepts.
Tanya is an energetic and fun tutor, extremely talented with playing the piano. Helped me understand music better.
Offers really good math lessons, helped me gain confidence in my math skills! Was definitely a major factor in helping me achieve my A1 in o level mathematics! One of the most nurturing, patient and funny ways of teaching that allowed me to change the way I saw math
I was struggling to understand my GCE O Level's Additional Math topic in Circles and Coordinate Geometry, but Tanya provided many additional materials and worked through the solutions together with me. Whenever I was in doubt, Tanya would encourage me to think outside the box and provide hints to me, so I would naturally derive the solution. Honestly, I think it was with great help that I managed to score an 80% in Math during my examinations due to her help (was previously failing or borderline pass at 51%)
Tanya is a really friendly and patient math tutor! I struggle to understand a lot of math concepts, but she takes time to explain them to me and makes sure that I understand them before moving on to other topics. She also gives me lots of good practises to test my knowledge of the different math topics. I definitely wouldn't have done so well in my math exams if it weren't for her help. I def recommend Tanya as a tutor, I think she's a great tutor for anyone and she has tons of knowledge to share.
Tanya is a dedicated tutor who never fails to bring out the best in her students! With her years of experience in piano, she is able to let her students progress as fast as possible with excellent results. It is no doubt that her teaching methods are efficient and easy to understand. I highly recommend!
Tanya is a super friendly and outgoing person, who will make you feel at ease moments from meeting her. She is able to convey her ideas easily and comfortably. Overall, she is a responsible tutor who makes lessons fun and engaging!
I know Tanya as her student for grade 8 piano and as a math tutor. She patiently taught me both grade 8 ABRSM piano and music theory, which allowed me to get merit for both exams. Tanya is also an extremely good teacher at IB HL maths. She patiently taught be the basics of calculus and statistics, as well as functions and algebra, which made me score a 7 in IB HL maths.
Tanya is a patient and motivational tutor. Not only was she able to teach me complicated concepts in math in a concise manner, she also taught me in a way that encouraged me to try harder and made me look forward to her lessons.
Teacher Tanya is dedicated and patient, therefore, I will strongly recommend her to all people who want to make significant improvements in their piano skills.
I am always a slow learner, however, teacher tanya was never flustered when I ask her to repeat her instructions. In addition, she always goes the extra miles to give me many valuable insights.
Through a month of lessons with teacher tanya, I feel that I have make significant improvements and no longer shy to perform in front of others.
Teacher Tanya’s lessons are also reasonably priced and definitely value-for money. Thank you teacher tanya for your help!
