I approach teaching in a patient, creative and encouraging manner supported by a wealth of knowledge and technical skills. Firstly, I like to assess what you are looking to achieve and the skills you would like to develop. I have a hands-on approach to teaching with demonstrations, solutions and step by step explanations to help you take your skills to the next level and achieve professional standards.
Tuition is available with Jayne online live. Jayne has a two camera set to capture general demonstration and discussion and close ups of using machine and hand techniques, so you can easily see and learn. A recording of the lesson is also available, so you can go through this time and again to help you at home. You just need a mobile phone, lap top or ipad (any device with a good camera, microphone and wifi signal.). Its an ideal way of learning at a distance in the comfort of your home.

I have been teaching for over 30 years, in further and higher education and now run my own Sewing School. My specialist areas are dressmaking, design and pattern cutting. Having worked as a fashion designer in industry, I continue to work freelance, creating bridal and special occasion clothing, alongside running Stitch Studio Sewing School.
Jayne is a fashion designer, pattern cutter and sewer /maker and a qualified teacher. She graduated with a First class honours degree in Fashion and worked as a designer in several companies, including Ladybird children’s clothing in Leicester, Lerose in Birmingham and Wallis in London. She holds a Cert. Ed (Certificate in Education) teaching qualification.
Jayne's passion for fashion began as a child, inspired by her mum, who was always sewing and made lots of clothes for the family. Jayne started sewing by creating clothes for her Sindy doll on her mum’s hand Singer machine, to making wild clothes as a teenager for herself and would surprise her friends by wearing something new she had made that day!
Jayne has over 30 years’ experience in Fashion and Clothing. After working in the fashion industry, she followed her heart and desire to teach, gaining her teaching qualifications, she worked as a Fashion lecturer and Course leader, as well as continuing with her own freelance design work.
During her teaching career of over 27 years, Jayne has inspired hundreds of students, taking them through a creative journey to achieve their personal ambition. Winning national and European competitions, many of Jayne's students are now working successfully in the fashion industry.
Her career progressed to the role of Creative Arts Head of Faculty in a large Further Education college. She led the college to a major success in media, launching Springboard TV and gaining JISC funding and national recognition for this initiative in achieving an AoC (Association of Colleges) Beacon Award in 2010.
Jayne has now set up her own studio, to share her wealth of professional knowledge and expertise and offering a range of day, evening and workshops in Dressmaking, Pattern Cutting and Textiles. Groups are a maximum of six, so everyone gets lots of personal and individual teaching.
Alongside running the sewing school, Jayne still continues to work freelance as a designer and maker creating bespoke christening, bridal gowns and occasion clothing.
She is patient, creative and encouraging. Working with a range of learners has made her highly adaptable and acutely aware of the needs of different people, and tailors her approach to each individual student as necessary. Most importantly, Jayne encourages everyone to enjoy the subject and have fun with it!
I have been a student of Jayne for 3 years. In that time I’ve gone from making a simple pin cushion to independently making tailored suits.
I love being part of group lessons, everyone is so friendly. I’ve also attended private lessons for those tricky techniques and I’m pleased that Jayne also delivers excellent online lessons to keep me going when I can’t get to the studio. She’s always so approachable and well organised no matter what mode of lesson I attend I always learn something new and feel confident to tackle my next project!
