I have tutored students of all ages and believe that no one can't learn maths. It simply depends on the approach you take and the angles from which you approach explanation.
Therefore I like to begin with real world examples and work backwards to the maths. Through this method not only can students more quickly understand the concepts but also appreciate their purpose, a crucial part of education and a great motivator.
I also aim to always explain a concept in more than one way. By doing this I aim to gauge how a student learns and then begin to tailor my teaching to their specific ways of thinking. One of the main benefits of one-to-one teaching is the ability to be this flexible.
Finally I always try to avoid relying on rote learning. I believe it should never be necessary and actually reduces your overall understanding of maths as a whole. By instead teaching my students the methods and patterns that make maths amazing I keep my lessons fun and engaging.
I live in central London and I am happy to tutor either in person or by webcam. I am happy to work evenings and weekends as well as weekdays.
I am a PPE student at Durham University and have been tutoring for half a year. I have taught half a dozen students maths from KS1 level up to GCSE and also helped students prepare for upcoming school entrance exams. I also have experience working with SEN students.
