When in comes to exams based tutoring, I focus a lot on explaining and teaching in ways which will help the student in their exam, and getting the best grade they can. Exam technique is just as important as material understanding in these cases.
My philosophy with learning is that no one is not capable of understanding something, it just has yet to be explained in a way that suits their learning style. Because of this, I volunteered 6 hours per week in my second year of university to projects dedicated to offering supplementary support to other students.
I am very patient in my approach to tutoring. I am happy to tailor sessions according to the student’s needs, and through my experience tutoring at my university I have learnt to be flexible when a certain approach is not fully received. I have also learnt to appreciate when I student does and does not fully grasp a concept.
I am in my third year of an Economics and Mathematics MA at the University of Edinburgh. I have experience mentoring groups of up to 15 first year economics students, as well as a years worth of experience running a help desk for students to come with specific technical questions. I achieved A*A* in my Maths and Further Maths A-Levels.
I ask that students give at least three hours notice if they wish to cancel a session.
