Efstathios - Turnham Green - Maths

Methodology

- Classes

Our classes are small, with an absolute maximum of 8 students, and we also offer one to one and online tuition.

We are passionate about science and maths, and we pass this enthusiasm on to our students.

This is why we focus on delivering excellence on the following subjects:

Mathematics: Mathematics is one of the required subjects in which everyone must demonstrate competence to advance to higher education, even those who will not pursue a numerical or scientific degree at university. It is also essential to achieve at least A grade at A level for those who wish to study scientific or engineering degrees at a top university, in subjects as diverse as physics, business, economics and engineering courses.

Physics: Physics is a required subject for those who want to pursue a physics or an engineering degree at university. Recently, there is also a growing trend from employers, especially in finance and banking, to hire people who have studied Physics as this demonstrates the analytical and problem-solving skills of the candidate.

Chemistry: Chemistry is a required subject for those wishing to pursue medicine or dentistry at university level. For candidates who can demonstrate competence in Chemistry, there is also a growing demand from industries such as oil & gas, pharmaceutical and engineering.

Biology: Biology is also required subject for those wishing to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry. New trends in this sector, such as molecular or nano biology, are high in demand from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies but also from national and global health and environmental bodies.

Computing: Computing and Programming are essential for those who want to pursue an engineering degree or a pure computing degree. From data analytics and stochastic modeling in finances, social and business intelligence in all sectors and up to technical support for naval and aerospace operations, computing and programming is fundamental to every single organisation.

- Additional Information

To ensure that all learning objectives are met, we give all pupils a Scheme of Work outlining the subjects to be covered over a certain period. The Scheme of Work is designed to take into account the following key points:

1. Pupils are kept ahead of what is happening at school. Too many tuition courses are designed to fill in knowledge gaps 'after the fact', heaping a lot of stress on pupils very close to the crucial exam period. With our comprehensive courses, we make sure pupils are ahead of the curve and that they do not fall behind.
2.The syllabus is completed in good time before examination dates, which allows sufficient time for revision and proper preparation for exams.

During our courses, pupils receive notes with:
* Clear, comprehensive explanations and examples focusing on the subject taught.
* A succinct summary of the all key concepts.
* Problem solving techniques.

To monitor their improvement, pupils are, regularly assessed either during courses using questions and discussions on the topics covered, or by tests and quizzes at the end of each thematic unit. Parents get feedback on a regular basis.

We believe that students do best when they are not allowed to become a passive audience. We make them participate actively in the process of their own learning, by applying innovative teaching techniques, including active learning, peer-teaching, and self-correction. Our experience has shown that, this way, they not only learn better and in more depth; they actually find the lessons more interesting.

We enable our students to appreciate their own learning efforts and achievements, which inevitably leads to a more satisfying and satisfactory teaching experience. They strive to make progress because they are encouraged by their results.

Closer to the exam period, we spend time with each individual students, and design a personalised revision plan for each student, including extensive resources to help with preparation for the exam. Along with their own revision plan, each student receives:
* All the past papers for their subject.
* Advice on how to improve the quality of their answers and how to manage their timing.
* The option to speak to us directly on the phone prior to exams if any last minute questions arise.

Background

We work with families, students and schools to improve students' exam performance in science and maths. On average, our students' grades improve by two grades, and so does their self confidence!

I struggled to find the right tutor to help me improve in my AS Physics and Mathematics for many months and I can honestly say that of the many tutors I have been taught by, Dr Stefanidis is such the most wonderful and inspiring teacher and I would not have got the grades I dreamed of if not for him.

Very Professional and engaging tuition with clear explanation of complex ideas with the use of comprehensive presentations. Clear structure throughout the course has made revision more manageable and I now feel more confident in my ability to answer exam questions and my exam technique has improved significantly to the stage where I now regularly exceed my target grade.

Phi tuition has been brilliant for my son. He has worked on Physics and Maths with Stathis and the rest of the team at Phi Tuition and I have nothing but praise for the preparation they put into lessons and the rapport they have established with my son. I highly recommend Phi Tuition.
