Eileen - Snaresbrook - Support for Students with Autism

Methodology

I am an experienced English and Music Teacher, having taught for 9 years, including spending the last year as a full-time English as a Foreign Language Teacher. I am young, enthusiastic and passionate about teaching students from as young as 3 to adults, individually and in small groups. I believe the most important thing in teaching is to make learning enjoyable - success follows on from there!

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach English Literature and Language (from Early Years to A Level; all exam boards) in addition to English as a Foreign Language.
I cover the 11+ and 13+ exams and provide support with reading and Special Educational Needs

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Commendation) from City Law School;
BA(Hons) English (2.1) from Christ's College, Cambridge;
A Level English, Russian, Biology and Religious Studies (all A Grades) and
9 GCSEs (all A*), including Drama, Music and Religious Studies from The Latymer School, Edmonton;
ABRSM Grade 8 Distinctions in Flute and Voice.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £30.00/hr.
I do not charge for travel (unless it is outside zones 1 and 2).
I can provide lessons for longer or shorter than 1 hour at negotiated prices and can provide discounts for students or families that study more than one subject with me.

- Where do you teach?

I will travel to students' houses or local (quiet!) public places within Leyton, Leytonstone, Hackney, Stoke Newington, Finsbury Park, Mile End, Liverpoool Street, Stratford and Blomsbury. I may be willing to travel outside these areas for lessons exceeding 1 hour.

- When are you available?

I am available to teach all-day Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in addition to Tuesday and Friday evenings.
I am available full-time during School Holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I enjoy teaching children from 3 to adults, from beginner to advanced levels.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I tutor students for School Entrance exams, SATs, GCSEs, A Levels and Cambridge University English as a Foreign Language exams (up to First Certificate).

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I offer online tutoring using Skype, Email and Instant Messenger.

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I am a passionate and imaginative teacher who uses many different methods to tailor lessons to each student's level, interests and preferred way of learning.

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been a full-time English as a Foreign Language Teacher for the past year for Fun Languages Ltd, teaching large groups of 3 year olds up to individual adults.
I have tutored individual students in English for GCSEs and 11+ and 13+ Entrance exams for the past 5 years. I have worked extensively with Autistic, Asperger's and Dyslexic pupils.
I started teaching Music Theory and Recorder part-time for Tobin Music School 9 years ago and extended my tuition to Private individual and group Flute and Singing lessons, which I have given to children and adults of a range of abilities.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

My CRB check is just out of date, but can be updated.

- Where and with whom did you train?

I was a Choral Scholar at Christ's College, Cambridge under Dr David Rowland, studying with Suzanne Flowers.

- Tell me about some of your current students.

I am currently tutoring a range of students for 11+ exams and independent entry exams, including students with dyslexia and dyspraxia. I am also tutoring younger, primary-school pupils, supporting the school syllabus and preparing for later school entrance exams.
I have taught a wide range of students for the past year; including children as young as 3 in groups of 25 students, Key stage 1, 2 and 3 in small groups and individual and group adult classes (from beginner to advanced).
I have prepared students for English and Music GCSE, for Cambridge University EFL exams up to First Certificate level and Music pupils for recorder and Music Thoery Trinity and ABRSM exams.
