Firstly, I ask the pupil to read to me until they get to a point where they may mispronounce or get stuck on a word and then I help by spelling it out and using phonetics for them to understand how to say that word and then ask them to repeat that word several times. After reading, I ask question about what they have just read to see if they have taken it in and understand what they are reading.
At my secondary school, I read to primary school pupils weekly to help with their spelling and pronunciation and I felt that I helped them to make a lot of progress by doing this. Although by only being 17, I am less experienced than others, I feel like I get along better with children and relate to them more so they enjoy their time with me (but still get lots done in the time!)
