Singing makes everything just that bit exciting! The great news is that 'the voice' is comprised of sets of muscles, and can be trained. So if you don't like how you're currently singing, something can ALWAYS be done about it.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach and coach Singing to a professional level, and am also a Performance Coach. Although Musicianship is listed as a separate subject, it's really a key part of singing well and is addressed at different capacities during a lesson.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I began training at the University of Missoula, MT (USA) and received my Bmus before moving to the UK and studying at the Royal Northern College of Music (PGDip and Mmus in Voice and Opera Studies). I was a company member of English National Opera's Opera Works 2011-2012, and I continue to study voice with Patricia MacMahon. In April 2013 I'll be studying the Accent Method with the British Voice Association. Current research includes the brain's reaction to traditional vocal imagery, and how this can be utilized during performance.
- How much do you charge?
Flat fee is £35 for both lessons and consultations, and a student fee of £30. I require 24 hours notice for a cancellation or to reschedule a lesson.
- Where do you teach?
Unless it's a workshop or group class, I teach from my private studio. I also teach at a private school one day a week.
- When are you available?
My schedule varies from week to week and lessons are scheduled on a weekly basis.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach 15yrs and above privately, however I'm willing to have a consultation with younger students and consider the possibility of beginning lessons. A consultation doesn't guarantee continued lessons.
- What kind of experience do you have?
Although I'm currently singing classically, I have professional experience performing jazz, folk, and musical theatre as well. I regularly teach workshops, and have given Masterclasses in the States; I've been teaching privately since 2004.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have a current CRB for working with both vulnerable adults and children.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I'm a member of the British Voice Association, and can be found in their catalogue of singing teachers. I'm also a part of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music as well as the Incorporated Society of Musicians. I'm also a workshop leader for Streetwise Opera, and have worked for English National Opera in a similar capacity internationally.
