I am a free-lancing professional Violinist based in South London, with a passion for teaching and performing. I love exploring all genres of music and reaching as many different kinds of people possible with my music-making.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Primarily the Violin, however I can also offer tuition on the Viola and for Music Theory.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am a graduate of Trinity College of Music, London with a BMus (Hons) degree. As a younger student I also completed many of the ABRSM graded music exams and I have my Grade 8 Distinction for Violin.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £30 an hour, plus travel expenses.
- Where do you teach?
I teach in and around London and am happy to travel to my students' homes. I find that younger students especially are usually more comfortable working an environment they already know.
- When are you available?
As a free-lance musician, my schedule is very flexible. I can be available all times of day/evening on most weekdays and weekends. I can also teach during the school holiday periods, whatever is mutually convenient!
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I will teach anyone who wants to learn! I have had students ranging from ages 6 - 86 and of all abilities.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
If my students wish to take graded exams, I teach the ABRSM syllabus.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
I believe in making my lessons great fun and relaxed, whilst remaining focused on learning the violin thoroughly and easily. I am dedicated to helping you realise your full musical potential - whether this is working towards Grade Exams, solo performances or learning a few tunes for fun! If you have any questions please just ask, no matter how bizarre or silly you may think they sound!
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have performed all over the world as a violinist - including Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Italy and Spain. Back on home soil I have performed in venues around the UK and in London including the Barbican and Snape Maltings Concert Halls, as well as the BBC Maida Vale Studios.
I am a founding member of the Docklands Sinfonia; I have held the position of Principal Second Violin for the last 2 years, and have performed with them in many prestigious venues including at Buckingham Palace for HM the Queen and at the Royal Albert Hall with Imogen Heap. I have also held the positions of Leader and Principal Second Violin in Trinity's Sinfonia Orchestra and with the London Productions Orchestra, as well as tutti positions within the Trinity Symphony Orchestra. As a chamber musician I perform regularly with Bryden Strings and is First Violinist with Mercury Strings. At Trinity I received chamber music coaching from the Wihan, Carducci and Brodowski Quartets.
As a teacher I have experience of teaching both one-to-one and small groups; in schools and privately.
Other areas of musical interest include Cross-Arts Collaboration and Drumming. I am a member of the band Drum Heads with whom I performed on the Brazil Stage in the BT River of Music; I was also a Drummer and Marshal in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympics.
