- Which ages and levels do you teach?

- Do you have a personal message for students?
My tutoring style uses a person-centred approach. I focus on promoting students' self-confidence and self-esteem as well as developing a growth-mindset approach to learning. I aim to create a warm, nurturing and safe environment where students' feel confident and comfortable.
I tailor my lessons to each student's strengths while improving areas of weaknesses. This allows students' to develop a deeper understanding of what strategies work best for them as well as developing an autonomy over their learning. This can be then applied to other educational experiences.
During our first consultation, we will discuss the students' learning journey by exploring their strengths, needs and goals. We will also discuss where the students' feel they are currently at. This will help determine the best approach towards achieving their desired outcomes.
What kind of experience do you have?
During my undergraduate and postgraduate degree, I studied a wide range of modules that focus on the psychological theories that underpin teaching and learning. These modules include; Educational Psychology, Individual Differences, Cognitive Psychology, ABA, Developmental Psychology and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.
My previous job role as an psychology intern, based in an ASD class, gave me a great insight into applying psychological theories to improve students' learning experiences and academic outcomes . Some of the areas that I worked in include; functional assessment, ASD specific assessments (VB-MAPP & ABLLS), data collection, reviewing psychological assessments, IEP development, functional communication training, and approaches & strategies used with children with ASD (TEACCH, Attention Autism, Handwriting without Tears, Intensive Table, Teaching, Visual Supports, Social Stories, PECS, Verbal Behaviour Approach and Applied Behaviour Analysis). I also worked on developing new methods of communication, self-management, social skills as well as academic goals.
I have also volunteered with an after-school programme for children in a disadvantaged area. These group of children were from a diverse background who all fall under the lower socio-economic barrier. I was a group leader and my duties involved supervising homework sessions, meal times and organising fun activities. I worked with children on developing and working towards individual learning goals which gave them a sense of autonomy over their learning experiences. I was also the co-coordinator of a kid's club, based in DCU. The kid's club involved two-hour sessions which was broken down into homework sessions and fun activities. Each of the children had different requirements and demands both academically and socially which as a leader and a team member, I had to adapt my approach to suit the individual.
I am currently employed as an Assistant Educational Psychologist in a primary school. I work directly with an Educational Psychologist to create and implement individualised learning plans for students that aim to improve social and emotional needs and academic outcomes.
In this role, I am also responsible for implementing strategies that are specific to the needs of children and young people who have a diagnosis of ADHD, ASD, Global Developmental Delay and Executive Function difficulties. I implement evidence based interventions for Dyslexia and Dyscalculia which are baselined, tracked and evaluated to monitor progress. I also run CBT-based interventions that help children and young people understand the links between their thoughts, feelings and behaviour to help manage anxiety/stress.
