About the lesson
I am a highly-qualified, dynamic and consistently 'outstanding' rated teacher with 7 years' experience in the primary and secondary sectors and specialist knowledge of dyslexia and dyscalculia.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach English and maths up to KS3, and also offer specialist literacy assessments and dyslexia and dyscalculia tuition up to KS4.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I have a degree from Durham University in mathematics, and Qualified Teacher Status. I hold Approved Teacher Status with the British Dyslexia Association, meaning that I have a specialist dyslexia qualification that allows me to provide a detailled literacy assessment of any child (which can be communicated to schools), and if necessary to tailor and deliver the BDA-accredited Dyslexia Istitute Literacy Programme to help remedy dyslexic-type problems.
I also hold the Exam Access Arrangements certificate through Dyslexia Action, which allows me to assess for exam access arrangements for SATs and GCSEs.
I am in the process of finishing my dissertation after which I will (hopefully!) hold an MSc in Special and Inclusive Education, giving me a rounded view of many different types of SEN.
- How much do you charge?
I charge £35/hour for 1:1 tuition. Book 10 sessions in advance for a 10% discount. Book 20 sessions in advance for a 15% discount. Full literacy assessment available (with report) for £120 (approx 1.5 hours of assessment)
- Where do you teach?
I prefer to teach at home as I then have full access to all my multi-sensory equipment. However, I am prepared to travel in the Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable, Milton Keynes and Buckingham areas if my travel expenses are covered - please enquire.
- When are you available?
I will be available from January 2013 during any weekday or weekday evening, with the possibility of some tutoring on a Saturday morning.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I tutor children in KS1, KS2 and KS3.

About Ellie
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have 7 years of teaching experience in both primary and secondary schools, so my educational knowledge is not outdated, but neither am I inexperienced. My experience of child development, the National Curriculum and current educational best-practice means that I can identify your child's areas of difficulty and build a programme around them in order to accelerate success in maths and English. I firmly believe that teaching based in rigorous research but done through games and many short multi-sensory activities is the reason that my students last year made on average 18 months' progress in their reading age over 9 months.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I have an up-to-date CRB check.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I beloing to the General Teaching Council, the Dyslexia Institute and the British Dyslexia Asociation.
