Award winning Jazz Vocalist gives singing lessons from Finsbury Park, London N7

Methodology

A touring and award winning artist (MOBO Award and winner of 'Vocalist of the year-2016' at The Parliamentary Jazz Awards).
I have released 3 albums in my own name. Singing is and has always been my whole life.
I am very passionate about teaching

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

How to communicate your musical ideas, verbally as well as musically
How to lead a band

Within 'Beyond Vocals' I organise monthly Jazz Vocal Workshops and Vocal Ensemble Projects and create regular perfromance opportunities for singers.

- When are you available?

I mainly teach on an intermediate-advanced level but happy to take on beginners. Anyone who is interested in learning about their voice is welcome!

(13yrs old and above)

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

Skype

- Do you have a personal message for students?

What I am passionate about, in terms of teaching singing, is to explore singers own personal sound and way of expression. Whether you are a beginner or a more experienced singer I believe this should always be one of the main focuses.

I encourage people to challenge themselves and to go outside of their comfort zone with the aim to feel free in their singing.

Experience

- What kind of experience do you have?

I graduated from Trinity College of Music in 2007 and I have since then been performing in various bands, which has led to one MOBO Award as well as touring around the whole of Europe. I have released 3 albums of my own and I was recently awarded 'Vocalist of the year-2016' at The Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

I love teaching on the side of my performance career and I have been doing so for the last 10 years. I am currently the Vocal Tutor at Brunel University and I have also started my own 'platform' for aspiring singers who are interested in Jazz and Folk music. This platform is called 'Beyond Vocals' and from here I organise a variation of different workshops, masterclasses and summer courses abroad. Visit (concealed information) for more information about this.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

Yes.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Trinity College of Music

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

MU

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Here are some quotes from my current students:

"I love working with Emilia. I'm a professional opera singer but I recently developed an interest in singing jazz. Emilia has such a warm, giving and knowledgable approach. She gives me so much inspiration. She instantly put me at my ease (improvising and singing in a far more flexible style from the point of view of a classical singer is scary!) and she is brilliant at listening - both to what I have to say and to the way that I sing. Her love of jazz, of voices, and of singing and music, shines through. It is, of course, a wonderful bonus to get to hear her sublime singing and unique interpretation of each song! I'm very much looking forward to attending her Summer Course in Izola this year". -Elizabeth Cragg, Proffesional Opera singer.

"I have learnt about things I wasn't expecting to learn about. The warmth of the enviroment encouraged me to push myself to try new things. It has more than met my expectations."
Nell Greco-Proffesional Singer/Freelance Copywriter

..."the advice given is presented in a very constructive and helpful way, which I really feel can help me improve..."
Nadiah-Emergency Physician/Proffesional Singer

"The course took me from amateur to being able to perform in a professional manner, in less than a week. Emilia was professional, creative and incredibly supportive of all her students on the course, getting to know each of us individually and developing us in our own direction. Best thing I've ever done in my life" (Alice Finn-Music Student at Uni)
