About Emily

- What kind of experience do you have?

Emily Onsloe is a British soprano from Essex, who is currently studying with Professor Susan McCulloch in her final year at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.

Her passion for music began at an early age learning the clarinet and saxophone and eventually realising her talent and passion for classical singing.

Emily was fortunate enough to win the 2012 Freda Parry Scholarship fund and was a finalist at the Essex Young Musician of the year awards. Previous titles include 'Havering's Young musician of the year' and 'The Rotary Music competition winner' In addition to this she won the 'Vera Richards residential course prize', 'The Ian Cox and Brian Donnelly award for outstanding achievement' and the 'Ruth Richards shield for music' and in 2011 Emily was generously supported by the Thomas Acton memorial fund.

Recently, Emily was the soprano soloist at the opening concert for the 2014 Brentwood Arts Festival in Elgar's 'Spirit of England' with the ELMS Orchestra at Brentwood cathedral, conducted by Andrew Wright. In May 2014 Emily made her debut as the Countess in a reduced version of Mozarts 'Le Nozze di Figaro' directed by Sally Burgess and performed the role of Woman 1 in Jason Robert Browns 'Songs for a new world' at the Silk Street Theatre, Barbican . Earlier this year she sung experts from William Russells oratorio 'Job' and was the soprano soloist for Mozarts 'Coronation Mass' at St. Mary's in Leyton. In 2012 Emily sung in Mahler Symphony No.2 in C minor 'Resurrection' at the Barbican with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jiri Belohlávek. Other personal highlights include singing for the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William at a society wedding in Oxford and being asked to return as a guest soloist at The Savoy Theatre for the Jack Petchy 'Glee Club Challenge.'

As a young singer Emily was part of Glyndebourne Youth Opera, attended the Jackdaws vocal course, Mary King's Vocal Weekend Workout at the Royal Academy of Music, and Abingdon Summer School for solo singers; these opportunities have enabled Emily to work with internationally renowned artists such as Sarah Walker, Robin Bowman, Mary King, Audrey Hyland, Saffron van Zwaenberg, Amanda Roocroft, Mary Hammond and Emanuele Moris .

Emily has performed as a soloist internationally in Spain, France and Italy. Before Emily started studying at GSMD, she was a keen chorister and embarked on a memorable tour to Venice with the Brentwood Ursuline Chamber choir, singing in St Marks Basilica. Emily also sang with 'The National youth Choirs of Great Britain' performing for the 25th Anniversary concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall and eventually went on to sing professionally with 'The Brentwood Cathedral Choir'
