Hi, I'm Emma and I teach the AAT qualification. It's something I've enjoyed doing for the last two and a half years and am now branching out on my own.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
I teach AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) and am happy to teach other bookkeeping qualifications.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
I am AAT and CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy) qualified. These are professional accountancy qualifications that can take you all the way to the top of your field. AAT takes you to Assistant Accountant level and is the equivalent to an under-graduate degree (Level 4), CIPFA takes you through to being a fully qualified Accountant and is the equivalent of a Masters Degree (Level 7). As the name suggest, CIPFA specialises in public sector finance and covers Central Government, Local Government, the NHS, charities and other not-for-profit organisations.
- How much do you charge?
From £35 an hour for a 4 hour individual session, £80 for 2 hours and £50 for 1 hour. I will also hold small group sessions, max 5 students, with prices ranging from £70 per person, per session for 2 hours and £120 per person, per session for 4 hours. Please contact me for further details.
- Where do you teach?
I can come to your home town and base somewhere quietly such as a local library or meeting room. I am based in Exeter and East Devon and happy to travel around the county and beyond.
- When are you available?
Monday to Saturday, including evenings.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Adults and post 16. Teaching Levels 2-4 of AAT.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I prepare students for the AAT qualification.
- What kind of experience do you have?
Between 2007 - 2013 I was a Systems Accountant in Local Government. I oversaw the implementation of a new finance system and from there, produced all the training manuals and carried out the system training, including from budget monitoring to processing invoices. I trained across all levels of the heirarchy. It was from this training experience that made me realise I wanted to teach. In January 2016, I became an AAT Tutor with a distance learning provider and never looked back! I teach across all three levels of the qualification and was involved in the transfer from the AQ13 syllabus to the current AQ16 syllabus, including updating the learning materials.
I am now branching out on my own and, as well as teaching, I am producing my own exam revision packs (my niche passion!).
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
Only for previous employers.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained at Exeter College for my AAT studies and, for CIPFA, attended their own training college in Bristol and London.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
AAT and CIPFA are my professional Accountancy organisations and, more recently, I've become a member of The Tutors' Association
• PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
• The Tutors' Association
