Emma - Crouch End - Music

Methodology

I am a fully qualified (PGCE) classroom music teacher and professional clarinetist and a passionate educator. I just moved back to my hometown London this March after having lived in Cologne Germany for five and a half years. During these years I have been performing in the genres of classical and klezmer music on stage and have been teaching at least 40 students a week clarinet, sax, piano and recorder in German. Therefore my german is now fluent. I posses 'A' grades in both GCSE and A level English literature and therefore in addition to music, consider myself an appropriate candidate to tutor English Literature.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Clarinet - Classical/ klezmer/ improvisation my first instrument, all levels taught
Saxophone - Classical/Klezmer/ all levels taught
Piano - up to Grade 5
Recorder - up to an intermediate level
German GCSE/A LEVEL
Music GCSE/A LEVEL
English Lit. GCSE/A Level

- Tell me about your qualifications.

Advanced Diploma in Education - University of Hertfordshire
PGCE (11-18 secondary music) UCE in Birmingham
BA(Hons) Music 2:2 Birmingham Conservatoire of Music
A Level English Literature Grade A
A Levels in Music and History
GCSE's including 'A' grades in English Lit. and Language, Music, History, French
Clarinet ABRSM Grade 8 Distinction
Piano ABRSM Grade 8

- How much do you charge?

Clarinet 35 pounds per hour. I mostly recommend half an hour individual lessons or 45 mins in pairs. Five pounds for travel expenses within zones 1-3
Seven pounds for travel to zones 4-6 (it costs more of my time as well)

For tutoring of other subjects around 30 pounds per hour plus the same travel costs.

- Where do you teach?

I would be happy to travel to students houses and can also tutor at home. I live in the county of Haringey (Crouch End), North-East London and would also teach in North West London, Hertfordshire, Central London, Harrow, West London.

- When are you available?

I'm pretty much available all of the time at the moment and I'm very flexible. I also require some flexibility from my students as I sometimes have to travel abroad to play concerts.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I have experience in teaching all ages. In my most current positions teaching in German Music Schools, lessons take place after school and are open to all age groups. In the last few years my youngest students were 7 years old already opting to learn clarinet and my oldest student was retired and started to learn clarinet at the age of 60!

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

All music grade exams should they have the desire to take them. Learning music (or anything for that matter) should be also enjoyable!

- Do you have a personal message for students?

I enjoy teaching :)
