About the lesson
Friendly music teacher based in Manchester. I am a clarinettist and composer who has recently graduated from the University of Manchester with a First Class Music degree. I am currently studying for a MusM Composition degree.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Composition, Music Theory and Clarinet to an advanced standard (i.e. up to Grade 8). I also teach saxophone at a beginner to intermediate level (i.e Grade 1-6)
Am also eager to help students prepare for GCSE and A Level music exams, particularly with regards to helping with composition coursework.
- Tell me about your qualifications.
MusB Hons First Class
ABRSM Grade 8 Clarinet Distinction
ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory Distinction

- How much do you charge?
I charge £18 per hour, £15 per half hour.
- Where do you teach?
.I am able to travel to students homes for lessons, preferably in North Manchester but also the city center, Rusholme, Fallowfield etc. Can also travel to Oldham but in these cases will charge extra for travel expenses.
- When are you available?
I am very flexible and should be able to easily accommodate pupils.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
Saxophone - All ages from beginner to grade 5 standard
Clarinet - All ages from beginner to advanced. (i.e. Grade 8 +)
Music Theory - Grade 1 to 5
Composition - All ages from beginner to advanced.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
ABRSM and Trinity exams.
GCSE and A Level music.

About Emma
- What kind of experience do you have?
I have experience teaching many different levels and ages of pupils.
As a musician I have lots of performance experience, I have played with many ensembles such as the Oldham Youth Orchestra and the University of Manchester Symphony Orchestra. I am currently the principal clarinettist of the University of Manchester Wind Orchestra.
As a composer I have had works performed by professional ensembles and have had works performed at public events such as the New Music North West Festival.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
No but I am in the process of acquiring one.
If any parents have concerns they are able to stay with their child throughout the duration of the lesson.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I trained first with Oldham Music Service where I gained my Grade 8 Clarinet and Grade 5 Music Theory.
I then trained with Liz Jordan (Freelance Clarinettist - Halle, BBC Phil, Northern Chamber Orchestra) at the University of Manchester.
I am tutored by Camden Reeves for composition at the University of Manchester.
- Tell me about some of your current students.
At the moment I am teaching some beginner adult students but also have younger pupils who are currently working towards ABRSM exams, and GCSE music performance modules.
