My approach changes depending on the age of the student but generally I like to use a positive focus, and admit when I make a mistake. I’ve been using a system called “Donuts”, where if I make a mistake at any point, and the student spots it before I do, they get a donut point. After 10 points I have to bring them donuts next session. I’ve found that my students confidence to try a question grows, and they tend to not feel embarrassed if they get something wrong.
I set homework to complete based on the lifestyle of the child and their learning goals. I have a number of resources and worksheets that I use, as well as learning games for younger students.
I’m a medical engineering student, currently studying at Cardiff University. I’ve been tutoring for 2 years, and have had clients of all ages.
