DISTINCTIVE PUBLISHING: Web Designer (6 Months)
Job Role: Responsible for designing and creating websites and logos for other companies, to strict deadlines and specific targets. Working in a team and building rapport with others to achieve high standards on tasks given. Worked independently on company projects, using PowerPoints and Photoshop.
JESMOND DENE HOUSE HOTEL: Waiter (1 year)
Job Role: Working in a highly pressured environment, having to meet high standards and expectations. Learning and memorising the wine list and food menu was essential, as well as having a detailed knowledge of the workings of the hotel in order to provide customers with all the information needed. Ensuring I provided outstanding customer service was paramount to my role and dealing with a wide range of people proved to give me experience in dealing with a variety of situations. It was key to work well as part of a team when making sure the restaurant service ran smoothly and efficiently, but I was also frequently required to work well independently when serving alone at the bar. Prepping the restaurant in an organised and well-timed manner to a very high quality was important for this role, and these traits were also useful in the cleaning of the restaurant such as washing dishes and glass collecting. I was frequently asked to cover reception, which involved answering the phone, booking in guests and providing information for any general enquiries. This gave me great experience in communication skills.
ROYAL STATION HOTEL LEISURE CLUB: Health Club Receptionist
I worked independently in the health club on twelve-hour shifts. I was responsible for the running of the whole health club independently on my shifts, which included maintenance and control of a range of areas. My responsibility was to maintain, clean and protect the health club’s pool, gym and spa facilities. I was also responsible for the safety of guests and members while in the pool area. I would clean towels daily and be on my feet a lot, as a constant supervision of all areas was required. It was also essential to be organised and manage my time well, as there were lots of tasks that needed balancing and to be done efficiently. Being on reception meant an excellent customer service manner was required, both for people visiting the health club and on the phone and emails.
