English and History in Belper, Derbyshire. KS3 and KS4, A Level and Undergraduate help with Essay Technique, Exam Preparation, Text Analysis and more...

Methodology

I work closely with my students to address their individual learning needs. My aim is always to boost confidence, banish exam nerves, and help my students reach their full potential. My lessons tend to focus on a specific issue and are always student-lead - this could be the close analysis of a text that is proving problematic, ideas about how to approach an essay question, help with presentations and public speaking, or practical advice about how to plan and structure your writing. This might be by talking through a problem, reading through a text together, or working collaboratively on a piece of writing. Let me know where you need help, and I'll assist if I can!

Experience

Hello! I'm a friendly, professional tutor with over twenty years' teaching experience. I am passionate about my subject and enjoy helping my students reach their full potential! I specialise in exam preparation and study skills in English and History at GCSE, A Level and Undergraduate level. Please contact me to discuss how I can help!

I am a fully qualified English teacher with excellent subject knowledge - I have also been a GCSE examiner for AQA. Before qualifying in the UK, I lived and worked in Hong Kong, where I trained with The British Council to Teach English as a Foreign Language to Adults. I was a tutor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a teacher at Hong Kong Japanese School.

In 2016, I received a History PhD from The University of Derby. I also have a B.A Hons in English Literature and Theatre Studies from Leeds University, a PGCE from The University of York, and an M.A. in Humanities by Research from Derby University.
