English Channel relay swimmer (2018) with 10 qualifications in swimming (teaching, coaching and lifesaving) & 10,000 hrs teaching experience.

Methodology

My teaching method has adapted over the years as my knowledge and experience around swimming has grown. How I taught in my first few years is significantly different than how I teach today. I always follow the BLABT format. Focusing on body position, legs, arms, breathing and timing. Only moving to the next step once the previous one has become competent.

Experience

Physiology graduate with STA level 2 in teaching & ASA level 2 in coaching. Furthermore I currently compete in distance events, winter swimming championships and have a 10 year background in competitive swimming which was established throughout school and University in Northern Ireland. I am also the owner of Proswimming UK which is an adult only swimming lesson provider by London Bridge station.

Stephen was great, helping me properly refine my technique before I started putting in the hours for my Ironman training. Really helpful and would definitely recommend - my swimming improved a lot, thanks!

Steven has a strongly positive and constructive approach to teaching - with exceptional abilities in working together with swimmers, enabling them to understand and fulfil their best potential.

Steven’s approach is also very considered. He is able to break down learning into appropriate, clear and manageable steps - empowering swimmers to build full understanding and genuine confidence.

He is committed and motivating - enabling swimmers to develop and challenge themselves in the best possible ways.

This is all combined with high-level knowledge and professionalism.

Didn’t know how to swim before I met Steven. With his help I now love water and have just gone swimming in the sea. Very patient and inspiring coach.

I came to Steven an average, at best swimmer, with poor technique and coordination.
Over a few weeks, Steven helped me with my breathing and techniques for strokes. He really takes his time and if necessary will spend the best part of a lesson on making sure the technique is perfected.

I came to Steven not knowing how to breaststroke properly but after a couple of sessions, i knew how to do it properly (and not the holiday version).

Choosing Steven to be your instructor means you're in a safe pair of hands; completely dedicated to achieving your goals and giving practical advice and feedback.
I cannot recommend him enough. He has helped me immensely and helped me develop a life long skill.

Steven is a great coach! I started learning swimming at 30 years of age and wasn't confident and comfortable at all. But Steven's patience and technique was brilliant and helped me achieve one of my life goals. Thanks a lot

I would highly recommend Steven. I have decided to take swimming lessons at the age of 30! Steven’s patience and skills were absolutely brilliant. If you are looking for a swimming instructor Steven is the one!

I had swimming lessons with Steven for a couple of years. He was a patient and effective teacher. He is very good at adapting his teaching style to the student. If there was an instruction or technique I was having trouble with, he found another way to explain it to me. I made progress very quickly. I would highly recommend him.

Steven taught me to swim. I was a 50 year old woman who was scared of putting my head under water. By the end of our sessions together I was confidently swimming front crawl and putting my head under water. Steven's patience and encouragement was/is out standing and he has given me a life skill that I thought I would never have.
