I base my teaching methods on the person centred approach where my students are able to tell me on aspects of the subject they are struggling with so I can then go on to plan my lessons around the student. As a tutor I feel it is important to listen to the students but also allow room for my opinions to be put in to the lessons for the child to receive the best teaching possible.
I am a recent graduate from university who has been tutoring for the last 12 months alongside my degree, my students have always thrived and enjoyed my tutor sessions whilst learning and increasing their knowledge to pass their tests. My students always gain confidence after my sessions and feel happier when taking tests and exams within their school.

I have gained work experience in many different sectors and companies meaning that I have experience with all ages of individuals and also in a variety of environments. I have done work experience at a John Fowlers holiday park where I was part of the entertainment team, I also used to volunteer at my local dance school for 2-3 years where I taught children from 4-13 years how to dance, how to improve their dancing and also help them to develop confidence in order to go and dance at famous places such as London theatres and DisneyLand Paris. Aswell as that, I have also taken work experience in schools where I was part of the mentoring support team for up to 10 weeks, I helped children who suffered from struggling with school work, friendship issues, home difficulties and even those who suffered with mental health illnesses, from this work experience I then went on to volunteer as a mentor for a company called Mentor Link. I still volunteer for this company where I go and visit several individuals at their school and help them with difficulties or issues that they may be dealing with; this may include mental health issues, educational difficulties or problems at home and with friends. I also do a volunteering position in a local primary school where I work within their mentoring system in a programme called ‘THRIVE’ by working in a school I have learnt how to work as a team and to use my skills and knowledge in order for the children to benefit and succeed to the best of their ability.
My first job was where I worked at De Beers café and garden centre, where I had responsibilities within the café and have gained experience working on the till as a front of house member of staff, I worked at this café for a year.
I then moved onto be a waitress at The Brinton Arms pub which is part of the Marston’s chain, here I had many different responsibilities and jobs which lead to me training staff up and organising bookings including Christmas day bookings. I worked here for 2 years and became floor supervisor then began to work towards my bar management, where I built up the skills to manage a team and become part of leadership. I also worked as a home administrator for Forest Gardens, here I took part in contacting customers, emailing retailers and have to use computer programmes at a high level. From working here, I have been able to gain the skills of using Microsoft including word, publisher, outlook and excel. Whilst doing these jobs, I was also part of a company called ‘tutorful’ which allowed me to tutor children in subjects they may be struggling with but also give them help and support within a variety of different topics too.
I have gained a variety of skills through my previous years of work experience and jobs, these include; patience, confidence, teambuilding, problem solving, empathy, self-belief, confidentiality with the individuals I work with and resilience. I am able to take on responsibilities and am always willing to learn new skills and values towards the job. I am also a trustworthy person, and therefore individuals feel comfortable in opening up to me and trusting me with their issues. Due to my university degree, I have been able to understand the policies and legislations within the education system.
