My name is Nyoka Ashley and I offer English or philosophy lessons to GCSE and A-level. I would say that I am very good at acknowledging the individuals learning style and using a multitude of techniques to suit the individuals needs. For instance if I met a visual learner I would use mind maps as one of my tools.
As a tutor I would say that I am very patient and understanding, especially as someone who suffers from mild dyslexia. My dyslexia has only made me a more hardworking and creative individual, with a passion to thrive and excel in academia. I think it's very important that the pupil engages with their studies and most of all enjoys their education despite any setbacks.
I encourage students to really understand the meanings of words and how they relate to the text. It's important that the student does not just accept a text as it is written but has their own thoughts and interpretations. Ideally the student should always stick to the Point, evidence, explanation format but take it one step further with some form of analysis.
I would also consider myself a highly organised individual who is able to motivate the student and give sufficient feedback. Although I am a student I am very confident in my capabilities and I believe that I would make a wonderful tutor because I enjoy learning as well as teaching others.
I have worked in a nursery for over six years, I have learnt how to cater to each and every child. As well as making sure the child is constantly engaged. Throughout my time in the nursery I learnt how to make lessons fun and interesting. I would often take a group of children and read them stories or we would do activities such as drawing and dancing.
Organised, and very friendly, as well as patient and considerate, good qualities for wanting to be a tutor. Nyoka is also positive, and works hard to get the best out of herself and others.
