English Literature student offering literacy and modern literature tutoring up to university level in London and Newport (South Wales)

Methodology

I base my classes around specific texts, catering to the students needs, focused around close reading and interpretation. I would produce small presentations for each student focusing on their specific needs so maximum learning can be achieved through my tutoring. I can provide general literarcy and grammar teaching if needed also.

Experience

I am an English Literature (BA Honours) student studying at Queen Mary University of London, about to enter my third and final year of my degree. I have studied a range of texts spanning from the early modern period to the modernist revolution of the early 20th century. I also hold a basic knowledge of philosophical texts.

WORK EXPERIENCE

O2 Academy Islington – March 2017 – May 2017
I am currently working part-time on zero hours contract as a bartender at the O2 Academy in Islington. Along with being a bar tender, my responsibilities include running the cloakroom and partaking in clean ups after events. Bar work at O2 is fast passed and is done under a lot of pressure, so it is important I keep my cool and do not break under stress. Working at a variety of club nights and gigs, I have encountered a wide range of people due to the variety of people that are catered for by these events.

Ede and Ravenscroft – July 2016 -
During the month of July last year, I worked for Ede and Ravenscroft at Nottingham Trent University. I worked mainly with the students graduating, dressing them in their graduation robes then collecting and organising the robes at the end of each day. Working with the students helped me gain social skills as I would have to interact with a variety of individuals, supplying them with their needed graduation robes, while also making them feel comfortable. I was also one of the team members involved in the collection of the robes at the end of each day, so I am used to working under pressure while making sure things are organised and placed in the correct areas.

McDonalds – January 2016 – March 2016
I worked as a crew member at McDonalds, serving food for customers on the till and at the drive through. As a requirement for this job, I took a food safety and hygiene course. Due to this, I can safely work in a kitchen environment at a high level of hygiene. Working on the tills, I interacted with a variety of people at different age ranges.

Volunteer Youth Drama Club Leader – September 2014 – December 2014
Over the course of four months, I helped run a youth drama group named MTS in Coalville, Leicestershire. As an assistant leader, I would help organise the group with involved under 5’s in activities that would help them develop both creative, and team working skills.

Responsibilities:

• Managing large groups of children, keeping them occupied while providing them with team building activities

Sixth Form Prefect / Maths Prefect – September 2014 – May 2016
Ashby School,
Ashby, Leicestershire

When I began sixth form, I took on two prefect roles within the school. The first was a more general prefect role, where I would be both a representative for my form, and for my school house on a whole. The second was a more defined prefect role, where I would help less able GCSE maths students with their teachings.

Responsibilities:

• Organising fundraising events for house charities, such as fun runs, bake sales, car washes, etc.
• Working with a large range of students to help both personal problems and academic ones
• Raising awareness for mental health issues in school by attempting to gain more funding for therapy in our school.

PERSONAL INTERESTS
Apart from my studies, I have a passion of experiencing live music in all of its forms – especially supporting the unsigned music scene within London. I am also part of the equality party within QMUL, which strives to create equality for all students within the university. I also have a love for reading which has been with me throughout my whole life. I am interested in a wide variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction, which prompt me to be open minded and widen my field of learning. My other hobbies include exercising and yoga in my free time. I also have experience with data entry and managing date within a digital format, as my technology skills are moderately advanced.
