All lessons shall be tailored to each student and their individual needs.
When teaching English Language, my aim is to improve each student’s ability to write effectively by developing their knowledge and understanding of pragmatics, semantics and syntax. I also aim to improve students’ confidence with regards to grammar, and I will teach them how to punctuate their sentences appropriately.
When teaching English Literature, I will also help students to learn to be perceptive while reading a text- to understand the message the author is trying to send and the desired effect on the reader. Additionally, I shall also help pupils understand the way a novel has been structured, and the impact that this has upon the text as a whole.
I will set challenging (yet *hopefully* enjoyable) tasks for each session and regularly monitor my students' progress. If I observe that they are struggling on anything in particular, I will adjust my future lessons to strengthen their ability in that area. My teaching shall also aim to encourage students, whatever their ability, rather than criticise them.
Although I am a new tutor, I have qualifications in both English Literature and English Language. I am happy to teach people of all ages, no matter their ability. Because I'm young and still a student myself (currently studying BA Philosophy at University of York), other young people might find me particularly approachable and easy to relate to.
