My name is Alistair Henfrey, I studied English at Pembroke College Cambridge (achieving First Class Honours), and I tutor in English Literature for GCSE and A-Level students. I usually teach for an hour at a time once a week -- I work by encouraging discussion and through giving detailed feedback on essays either for school/college or written for me.
My methodology for teaching English (especially to A-Level and for university entrance) is based upon the Cambridge University Practical Criticism paper; this teaching style involves close reading texts whilst incorporating more developed critical theory/thought than one would commonly encounter at A-Level.
I am keen to develop the course alongside students/parents, however, and have taught for a wide range of ability levels.
I have been tutoring for over four years in a variety of disciplines: I have taught from primary school all the way up to A-Level in subjects from English to Latin -- I have been able to successfully develop and improve students' working abilities in these areas. I am not prescriptive about the course I teach: I adapt to the specific texts/courses of the students!
I am more than happy to discuss altering rates depending on various factors; given the pandemic, I understand that money is tight and I don't want anyone to be put off from getting in touch!
