I am a qualified English and Functional Skills Teacher working in Further Education for an F.E college. I like to find alternative and enlightening approaches to student engagement that link to career and vocational development as well as future aspirations. I favour short and intensive learning as opposed to long winded 'learning by rote'. I enjoy thinking outside the box and try too make learning fun for my students. I am quite laid back but this does not mean I am a pushover, I insist on high standards of work and effort in all tasks.
I have been teaching since 2008 and have taught many hundreds of students in different educational establishments and environments. I am most proud of the fact that in my current position I have a 96% pass rate for students at GCSE English and a 89% pass rate for students completing their Level 2 Functional Skills qualification and progressing to GCSE.
I have a BABsc in English and History from Canterbury Christ Church University in which I achieved an Upper Second class degree (2:1).
I have a distinction in courses entitled:
'Managing Troublesome Behaviour in the Classroom' and 'Early Childhood Development in Education'.
My work experience starts in retail where I trained staff in induction training before I moved over to training Health and Social care workers in English and Mathematics. Since 2008 I have worked in education across primary, secondary and post 16 provision and have worked extensively with special educational needs (SEN) and high needs learners.
