I set you a bespoke industry style design project and specify deadlines. Work should be sent to me by email in jpeg form. I will give you weekly critiques.This how I work with San Francisco University and private students in China.

I am patient and understand the pressures of full time study.I have experience working with students who speak English as second language and those who have learning difficulties.

I currently work for myself as a Fashion Textile Designer, I own a textile concept design company supplying fashion houses and retailers worldwide. My work has recently appeared in the collections of Antik Batik, ASH, Hugo Boss, Monsoon and Urban outfitters amongst others. I will be exhibiting at Premiere Vision in Paris.

- Where and with whom did you train?

Central St. Martins, London. (CSM)

- Tell me about some of your current students.

Student 1 - I have been working with student 1 since she was studying A-levels and I have been working with her on a weekly basis to help her with fashion design and garment construction skills. She was been accepted to study Art Foundation at Central St. Martins and has now been accepted on the fashion design pathway. I will continue working with her on a weekly basis until she has been accepted on the BA Fashion at St. Martins.

Student 2 - I have been working wiht her since she was studying Art Foundation at CSM, she was accepted to study BA Textiles at Central St. Martins. We work principally on research methods, design development skills and portfolio presentation. I also help her with cultural studies essays.

Student 3 - Is studying Fashion BA at Marangoni. I help with pattern cutting.

Student 4 - Has completed a BA at LCF and is currently preparing her portfolio for an interview fo the MA at CSM.

Student 5 - Is studying Fashion Marketing BA at LCF and has help with essays and marketing projects.

Student 6 - Is eight years old and wants to study Fashion BA at CSM, we work on drawing and customisation projects

Student 7 - Is 14 years old and wants to study Fashion BA at CSM, we work on pattern cutting and sewing techniques.

At this moment I do 3 months internship at Peter Pilotto. Esmee helped me get the interview for the placement.
Esmee also helped me to prepare portfolio for Womenswear Fashion Design Technology (BA Hons) and I was accepted for this course.
Her advice and feedback were useful for me when I did 2nd term of my 1st year (Jersey Project) and same thing when I started my 2nd year.

Esmee is very good at molding her teaching skills to your specific needs and gives amazing advice for projects and sketchbooks layout. She is like a walking encyclopedia as she can answer any art related question.
I really enjoyed her teaching method as well as being a great teacher she also has great sense of humour which makes the lessons more enjoyable.

When did this passion find you?
ESMEE — At the age of four, I discovered the sewing machine and made outfits for myself and my dolls. I grew up in a very creative household. My Grandmother was a dressmaker and my mother was an Art teacher. So, essentially, I had two Private Tutors all the time showing me all the skills that I needed.

Which artists or works affect you most?
ESMEE — Alaia RIP was one of the best designers, who understood the female body and materials. What I also loved was that he had the confidence to show his collections out of the main Fashion calendar. His knitwear was sublime, his leatherwork exquisite. He was the ultimate designer who worked with the female form. There are many brands that I love and I admire those who have succeeded; deserve all the credit that they can get. Alexander McQueen was a master at tailoring and had an eye for trends. He had the best taste in fabrics and prints, and his embroidery concepts were perfect, too. Tom Ford has fantastic products, I love all of it.

What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?
ESMEE — Passion, enthusiasm, dedication first of all. This is a tough business, you need to be 100% dedicated, nothing happens easily. Having all the basics is important, which includes, drawing, painting, photography, pattern cutting, sewing, knitting, embroidery. A designer needs to know about all these skills. Later on in your career, other things will become important such as business planning, costing and marketing. The list of skills to be an all-round great fashion designer is endless.

Briefly explain what is involved in fashion projects?
ESMEE — The creative process is directly related to our surroundings and the culture that we live in. Music, architecture, street fashion, social media, travel, all these elements influence us. A good designer often has far too many ideas and the talent is in editing them down to focus on the project at hand. All ideas are important but a designer needs to keep the ones that are not directly related to the project in a sketchbook so they can refer to them for future projects.

How would you describe your passion, how does it make you feel?
ESMEE — I use my work to zone out of daily life: design is fantasy, creating something out of nothing is extremely satisfying. I love working in factories, seeing things made, fabrics being cut, garments being stitched. Receiving beautiful samples created from my own designs from my initial inspirations is like receiving a gift... it's always a joy! Seeing your final collection on a rail at the end of the creative journey is a great feeling. I always over criticise my own work and sometimes it isn't until years later that I'll look and appreciate my designs and the artistry that has gone into making them.

What creative achievement are you particularly proud of?
ESMEE — In addition to working on Fashion Products, I also work on Fusion Illustration and Fine Art projects. The beauty of training as Fashion designer is that your skill can be transferred to other projects. Last Summer, I worked as a live Fashion Illustrator at Kensington Palace sketching visitors who came to the opening evenings of The Diana exhibition. Guests posed for four minutes to be sketched and were each delighted with the illustrations of themselves.

This Summer, I have been working on life size figurative sceptre for a mansion in Epping. This was one of the greatest challenges that I have had as I had so many new skills to learn. I had a mentor to follow me through the whole process. It will be installed soon.

Have you ever been surprised by a student: by their ability or quick progression?
ESMEE — Yes, I had one student who came to me, who had very little drawing experience. After a year of weekly classes, he became very confident in a range of mediums and created very strong illustrations and sketchbooks good enough be accepted on the BA fashion course at CSM. He now works as my assistant on fashion projects and assists me with tutoring. Its good to have a student with me in classes as peer group learning really help you grow.

Being a Superprof is an art. What is your secret?
ESMEE — I come from a multi-cultural background: 50% British, 10% Italian 10% Greek, and the rest is a mix of Turkish, French and German. I speak a few languages and have lived and worked in many countries so I have an international point of view. Many of my students are from abroad and the fact that I have had exposure to so many different types of people and culture means that I can tailor the classes to the mindset of the nationality that I am teaching.
