Everything comes with practice. Once you learn and practice, nothing is as hard as you think.

Methodology

I believe practice is the way to learning. A lot of my teaching is based around practicing exam style questions, and questions that students would actually receive when being assessed. I use questions to try to understand which areas my students struggle with, and then target these specific areas.

Interview with Cheyenne

QUESTION 01 | 07
When did your passion for maths begin?
Cheyenne — I've been passionate about maths for years - right from the start of primary school. I remember just finding it so interesting. I even received 100% on my maths SAT.
QUESTION 02 | 07
As a mathematician, do you have a favourite formula or theorem and why is it your favourite?
Cheyenne — My favourite formulae would have to be those relating to Trigonometry. Purely due to the fact that there are so many identities and ways to work around a question, which shows that maths isn’t as straight-thinking as everyone assumes.
QUESTION 03 | 07
How can learning maths help you in everyday life?
Cheyenne — Maths is a brain exercise. The same way going to the gym makes everyday life easier because you become fitter. Maths works your brain and has the same effect.
QUESTION 04 | 07
Have you ever struggled with an area of maths and, if so, how did you overcome it?
Cheyenne — I used to struggle with Logarithms and Exponentials (in terms of rearranging and simplifying). This was mostly an issue because I had to learn something completely new and I had never seen before. It’s true what they say: practice makes (close to) perfect.
QUESTION 05 | 07
What do you think are the qualities required to be a maths Superprof?
Cheyenne — Being patient, understanding and passionate. It’s easy to understand maths when you love it, but to teach it to someone who maybe doesn’t have the same passion takes patience. Not everyone will pick things up as quickly as you or others do.
QUESTION 06 | 07
What would you say to a student who says maths is useless or boring?
Cheyenne — I would show them exactly why maths is fun and interesting. I would show them the examples of maths in everyday life: the patterns in our world; and tell them that maths is a universal language, which makes it so important.
QUESTION 07 | 07
How does a maths Superprof tackle maths lessons; do you have any special methods?
Cheyenne — I’m a huge advocate for practice and learning by doing. I teach by doing exam-style questions to ensure my students get a taste of what the real thing is like.
