My teaching is rooted in play and curiosity. Much of my work is designed to put the student in the driving seat, to help channel their ambitions and assist in achieving their aspirations. Each lesson is unique because every student and client will have their own way of working; and whether you are looking to hone existing strengths or gain new skills, your needs will be placed front and centre.
Acknowledging that Acting is a physical art form, I often employ a physical approach, which starts with and comes through the body - always with an eye on challenging the learner, but ensuring that the work comes from a place of pleasure and fun.
My practice aims to raise sensory awareness, spontaneity and presence, and find a place where imagination and observation meet to create dynamic choices.
Tuition is always bespoke and is tailored to the needs of the student.
I have a busy private coaching practice, which I have been running for nearly a decade, where I regularly work with professional actors, recent graduates, and those preparing for Drama School application. I welcome all levels of experience, and always aim to put my clients at ease so they can achieve their best work.
I initially trained as an Actor under full scholarship at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, and after a number of years working in primarily theatre-based contexts, I undertook an MA in Actor Training and Coaching at The Royal Central School Of Speech And Drama to refine my skills as a teacher and coach.
I am currently Head of First Year at Fourth Monkey Actor Training. Previously, I have worked as a Visiting Professional, Visiting Lecturer and Associate Director at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (BA Acting, CDT), an Acting Tutor at ALRA (embodiment and movement), LAMDA and East 15, as well as a Visiting Lecturer at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, and Brunel University. I also work as a freelance Movement Director.
Many of my private students have gone on to study at some of the country's top Drama Schools and Conservatoires, and current and past clients have been seen on stage and screen - from Fringe to West End, and from Commercials to Netflix.

Richard will go above and beyond; challenging you, sparking your imagination and developing the craft in a thoughtful, energised way. He has this rare combination as a director of being astute yet with a playful and committed approach which is personalised to each actor.
Richard is nothing less than an inspired tutor. He has extensive professional and teaching experience, a unique, playful approach to movement and actor training and is a kind and compassionate pedagogue. His classroom is a space for exploration, joy and rigour - there are few people who can combine these ideals with the consistency that Richard maintains. I cannot recommend him more as a trainer or coach.
Richard is the one to go too. Practical, accessible, advice. He has the patience of a saint and is as sharp as they come!
His advice on movement for actors has been invaluable to my theatre company!
Devoted academic and experienced practitioner. Will be one of the best.
I worked with Richard for a number of years and I can't recommend him highly enough
On top of his skill, experience and acclaim as actor and theatre maker, Richard’s care, insight, and attention to detail with students is remarkable. I’ve worked alongside him and have seen students thrive and grow after sessions with him. Jump at the chance to work with Richard!
Richard has worked with me as an acting coach and colleague, I have found his insight into acting to be invaluable and could not recommend his services enough. The environment he creates is one of trust, play and inspiration. As a professional actor I would look no further than working with Richard as an acting coach to explore tricky scripts, breakdown a character and get being exploring physically inhabiting a character. His passion for the work is infectious and his generosity of knowledge is more than you could ask for.
I have worked with Richard in the past in a long going project and for more than two years I have seen him excel at many different scenarios, not solely as the truly extraordinary actor he is but as movement director too. His input for devising, professionalism and lighting-quick flexibility made working with him a true joy and an incredibly enriching opportunity. Finally, his voice and masterful use of it is outstanding and having had the luxury of recording him in many occasions I cannot but recommend you do so too.
Work with Richard, you’re in for a treat.
Richard is extremely detailed, insightful and incredibly generous with his teaching. I have worked with him on 3 separate projects and each time, I have been blown away by how attentive his methods are and how creative his vision has been.
Would highly and always recommend!
Richard is a very knowledgable and experienced tutor. I always feel what he feedbacks and suggests reliable. He’s very good at providing a safe and comfortable space for students to express their opinions. He’s such a brilliant listener. He supported and challenged the way I approached my learning material and at the end he helped me to improve a lot. Don’t hesitate to chat with him and see what he can help you!
I've worked with Richard several times over the past year, having been assistant directed by him and worked with him 1 on 1 sessions. Richard has an incredible eye for your individual needs, and a really deep understanding of a wide variety of methods. This means that you always leave with several new ways of approaching your work, and the confidence to further your work on your own. Besides, he always work with a real sense of play, so it's always a Lot of fun! Cannot recommend Richard enough.
