Other Work Experience

Skills and Achievements

Teamwork and /or Leadership:
I worked in teams of practitioners at Sheffield City College Nursery, Burngreave Nursery and Kelford Special School: planning activities and delivering the National Curriculum, Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, and the outcomes of Every Child Matters.
I was Team Leader at a residential drama summer camp for secondary school pupils, working with team of 6 running the camp’s activities and caring for the children’s safety and wellbeing, including delivering first aid. I also spent a year out of University volunteering with a Forest Nursery, at a Forest Drama Company, and as a one-to-one tutor for GSCE Mathematics pupils.
I was the founder of the Sales and Communication Champions team at William Hill: writing and disseminating briefings to the staff population. I also devised, wrote and delivered a company-wide weekly competition to engage the staff population more with their professional responsibilities and target market.

Communication and Interpersonal:
I have and will always prioritise forming open, empathic and professionally warm relationships characterised by unconditional positive regard with both children, parents or carers, and fellow staff in the best interests of children’s spiritual and academic development.
I became comfortable switching between the different communication styles necessary with 2 year olds, fellow staff, management, multi-agency staff, and parents or carers at many varied Early Years Centres.
I mentored an international student at SHU in 2014; being a friend, promoting her independence, guiding her to additional services and being on hand at any hour to assist her in whichever way she needed me.
I was a member of the Staff Councils at both William Hill and the British Red Cross: collating staff issues or grievances then disseminating them to, and resolving them with, the SMT.
I was a job coach for new staff at William Hill: guiding and supporting new starters as they acclimatised to both their new job and work environment. I also trained all existing staff after the installation of an entirely new operating system.
I worked exclusively with William Hill’s highest-profile “priority” clients, using the same listening, problem-solving and flexible thinking skills as I did when becoming Midlands Review Newspaper’s record ever salesman.
I was the lead salesman in a team of 6 at Midlands Review Newspaper: working to daily deadlines; keeping calm and measured in high pressure environments; constantly discussing and re-evaluating short-term priorities with the team, and sharing responsibilities.

Additional Information

Kilimanjaro to raise more than £10,000 with them in that time. I was a member of their Staff Council from 2011 - 2014, and have often met with their CEO and SMT to discuss youth inclusion strategies at head office in London.
