My teaching method is person-centred. I tailor my lessons depending on the needs of the client/student. I can teach traditional drawing techniques as well as abstract paintings. I can combine live music and movements in the lesson where you will draw/paint after moving or painting to a piece of live music I perform. The first lesson is free where consultation is given and we can get to know each other first to see if the lessons with me is for you.
Either you just want to develop your drawing skills or need lessons with a therapeutic purpose, you will be supported by a caring, insightful, experienced tutor.
I am a multi-disciplinary artist trained in Postgraduate Diploma in the foundation of Arts Psychotherapy and the foundational degree in Art and Design. I hold MA in Creative and Critical Writing and am trained in classical ballet. I started drawing, making paper sculptures, painting when I was 5 and have been taught by my mother who is an art teacher. I have years of teaching experience (currently employed by the University of Sussex) and am trained in the foundation of Arts Psychotherapy, counselling skills, mindfulness-based meditation.
I am deeply interested in the relationship between creativity and mental health. I have recovered from various mental health issues myself and been helped by different forms of arts, literature and music as well as psychotherapy. When we explore the creative process, it is possible to face obstacles and past wounds. These can be powerful tools for artistic expression and personal development if treated well.
I offer lessons that would support your creativity - or help you discover if you have not found it yet - connect with it deeper and find a way to develop further.

We can highly recommend Asami, she is both knowledgeable and reliable. She taught our son Japanese for 5 years, during that time he reached a good standard of the written and spoken language which has given him a very good platform for his current degree in Japanese studies.
Asami is a friendly, patient tutor with a way of explaining points of language very clearly. I always look forward to my Japanese lessons and would highly recommend Asami to prospective students.
