First of all, I recognise that each student is individual and therefore prior to our first session, I encourage the student to fill out a short questionnaire about what you would like to get out of the sessions because I believe preparation is key. This will be a few details about the student’s learning style, exam board, the content and/or exam techniques the student would like to cover, as well as outlining their goals to ensure they are making the most out of my sessions; these are for the student’s benefit! Unlike other tutors, I believe tutoring is not just within the hour scheduled, but is about getting an overall picture of the student and their abilities. To achieve this, I will also provide constructive and detailed feedback if the student wishes to send in any work, and I will mark according to the exam board. Additionally, I provide my own resources in the style of the exam board: creating practice essay questions, unseen passages or poems for my English students, as resources from exam boards are often limited due to the new specification. These can be used as an aid for revision, or to look over during the sessions. If you have any questions regarding myself or my sessions, please do not hesitate to contact me, I am very friendly and I aim to respond within a few hours. I look forward to meeting you and discussing my favourite subjects!
Hey guys! I’m Chloe, a second year Philosophy undergraduate at Durham University, with a love for all things books. Although Philosophy is my main field of study, I also tutor English, after achieving A*s in GCSE and A Level, and winning ‘Most Outstanding English Student’ in my city, so am well-equipped to deliver this knowledge in its best form: clear, concise and accessible. Studying Philosophy as a degree facilitates my tutoring as I have developed the critical thinking skills studying English alone would not provide, therefore I am more prone to offer logical, yet a deeper and detailed analysis. Philosophy is known for being ‘to the point’ and I have experienced explaining things in their simplest form during my time as a tour guide in an aquarium. Being from a state school myself, my passion for education has come from within. State schools throw hurdles at you which in some cases make you a better student if you tackle them well. Something notable is that I did not have an English teacher during my A Levels, which has meant that my success has been a result of independent work, finding and creating my own resources with self-motivation. I wish to assist students in the best way I can.
