You've found a real gem,
Alexandra is very sought-after this month.
I approach my lessons with the student's individual needs at the forefront of my mind. What exactly is it that they want to achieve, and how can I help, motivate and accelerate this process? I am a firm believer in confidence building and motivation, these are the building blocks of a successful ESL student. I try and tailor my lessons to the needs and interests of the student, whilst ensuring that we also focus on accurate grammar, spoken fluency and clear expression.
I have been teaching English to speakers of other languages for over seven years. I've taught students from all corners of the globe, of all abilities (from beginner to advanced; IELTS and pre university EAP classes) and am extremely confident in my abilities to help you achieve your language goals.
I am a highly motivated English Literature and Language teacher, with extensive experience of teaching a range of student abilities and ages. Confident in front of a class, enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable, I am looking for exciting opportunities to grow and develop professionally.
Employment History
• Literacy Intervention Teacher at North Liverpool Academy 2018-2019
This involves working in a small team with whole school responsibility for Literacy. By liaising with main teaching staff, we identify students who are ‘falling behind’ their peers in terms of literacy skills; group them; and then work with them to improve by reading, inferring and deducing in smaller, supportive groups. Accurate record keeping of student progress was paramount.
• EAL Co-ordinator at North Liverpool Academy, Jan 2012 – 2018: This role involved working mainly with students who have English as an Additional Language at a large, mixed secondary school in Liverpool. Liaising with main class teachers, I planned and delivered a language assistance program tailored to the needs of the learners, to ensure improvement in their second language. I also liaised with the Pastoral team to ensure that the new student feels happy and secure in their new home. Additionally, I initiated various extra-curricular activities over the years at NLA for the students.
I have also led whole-staff and departmental training on ‘Working with International Students’ to the wider Northern Schools Trust which received extremely positive feedback. I also served as a first point of contact for staff queries regarding EAL students: advising, supporting, and constantly refining my practice to better support both colleagues and pupils.
• Local Teacher for Education First International Language Travel, Summers ’08 – 12. From 2008-2013 I spent a three month period for four consecutive years as a teacher to multinational classes of teenagers at various residential language camps across the UK. Key responsibilities and achievements included:
- Planning and delivering lessons using the EF course books as a guideline
- Liaising effectively with co-teachers to ensure information was exchanged effectively and all lessons were linked cohesively.
- Responsibility for the organisation of registers, planning sheets and marked placement/end of course tests.

Personal Interests
I am an avid reader and, in my free time, I also love going to rock and heavy metal concerts! I enjoy learning other languages and am currently trying to improve my French. I am a blue belt in tae kwon do and also play American Football for the Cheshire Bears – the only full contact, womens team in my area. We gained a Bronze medal in our debut 18/19 season, and are looking to improve even further next year!

Passionate, creative and full of intellectual verve, blending language teaching skills with Shakespearean suggestions. 10/10 would recommend.
Alex is a caring, compassionate and patient practitioner whose knowledge of literature is second to none. Her experience with students were English is additional language is exceptional.
I work extensively with disadvantaged students in Further Education. When I need help with a struggling ESOL student, Alexandra is the first place I turn.
Alexandra has a tremendous range of experience working with second language students and can always find a solution to any difficulties they are experiencing. Additionally, she is the most kind, supportive and understanding teacher I know.
I would recommend her to all students whether beginning their English journey or looking to refine their language skills for a university setting.
I think Alex is a very trustworthy tutor because she has the students best interests at heart and is able to help them understand any English task be it language or literature. She uses a variety of techniques to enable international students understand the complexities of the English language.
Alex is great! She prepared me for my esol english test and thanks to her I have my level 2. Thank you so much Alex, I couldn't have done it without you.
