I offer fun and engaging lessons that aim to challenge and raise your confidence. Previous students of mine have enjoyed our sessions and gained a more positive approach to learning, once they realise that English doesn’t just exist in intimidating anthologies and text books! In my sessions, I balance creative approaches and engaging tasks with a detailed understanding of exam and coursework criteria. From day 1 we will have a clear direction and refer to learning outcomes throughout the process.
Ultimately these sessions are tailored to your personality, learning style and what you want to achieve from them.
I work as an English Teaching Assistant in a Secondary School, leading classes, small group sessions or working 1-1 with students. I work with a range of ages and abilities, including non-native speakers and students with complex needs. I have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language in different countries. My English Language Degree (University of Leeds, 2:1) has honed my skills in: writing for different purposes, grammar, research, comprehension and text analysis. I specialise in the following tuition:
- GCSE and A Level- English Language and Literature (text analysis and creative writing). These sessions also work on key exam skills that are applicable to all subjects.
- 11 + entrance exams and verbal reasoning.
- SEN support- experience in voluntary roles with dyslexic and/or autistic learners.
- EFL (English as a Foreign Language, Accreditation from The TEFL Academy). Teaching according to CEFR levels. I have led classes for a range of ages and abilities, in Spain and Thailand, developing confidence and core skills in: reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Higher education- Increasing student engagement and training design.
- I have BSL Level 1 so would enjoy working with deaf/hard of hearing students.
I am a compassionate and thoughtful person, looking for teaching and tutoring work to build on my experience before I begin my PGCE. I am committed to making English and Literacy accessible and relevant to all types of learners. I can help students confidently navigate exam criteria and technical aspects of English, by recognising barriers to learning and encouraging them in fun and engaging sessions.
