I am a strong believer that to learn a language, it is imperative that the student enjoy doing so. My top priority is therefore to make the student feel as relaxed and as comfortable as possible, and then to slowly build their confidence at their own speed by first building on their strengths before moving onto more complex things.
I make use of language games and flash cards to give a more visual and colourful experience, which have been very effective in the past.
I also believe that repetition is the answer to learning a language, however not in the banal, textbook sense. I like to help students develop ways to structure their sentences that work in a similar way to putting together a jigsaw puzzle, and then to combine variety and repetition so that they get used to forming sentences and using verbs in a range of different topics and situations.
Overall, patience is the answer. And I strive to be as patient and approachable as possible to give students a relaxed and safe environment in which to learn.
I am a final year university student of French, Italian and Translation Studies and I have been learning French for 11 years and it is my favourite thing! I have spent a lot of time living with French families, au pairing and holidaying in France over the years, and last year I lived there for 8 months. I won an award for having the highest grades in French grammar in my year group at university and I love every aspect of the language and culture. I absolutely love the oral aspect of French and I have concentrated particularly hard on my French accent over the years.
I have been volunteering in schools and tutoring for 5 years and I love working with students of all levels and making French that little bit easier and more enjoyable.
I currently tutor GCSE French students in a local school and last year I gave private English tutoring sessions to French citizens. Before that I worked as a mentor to sixth form and GCSE students for a year, and prior to that I volunteered as an assistant in Y7 French classes.
I have experience working with children as young as 6 through to GCSE level as well as with adults.
Perfect! Have had two classes with Helena and it was amazing. The material she brings is very visual and very good. On the classes we are focusing on the points that require more work and are aligned with my objectives. Will continue with the classes and it has been excellent til now
Luis is a motivated and engaged student who I thoroughly enjoy teaching. He is very quick to grasp concepts and applies his knowledge well. He is very friendly and trustworthy and I recommend him as a student.
