Teaching experience (examples)
Summer 2012 Chinese Summer School, Eton College, Eton, UK
I worked as an English teacher for Eton College’s Chinese Summer School, during which I was solely responsible for both the grammatical and cultural education of my own class of Chinese foreign exchange students. Responsibilities included lesson planning, delivering classes and accompanying students on cultural excursions to a plethora of British museums and points of cultural interest including the London Eye and the British Museum.
2009 (6 months) Voronezh State University, Voronezh, Russia
I completed a four-month period of teaching university-level students and studying in Voronezh, Russia, where I further improved my teaching and language skills as part of my year abroad. I was responsible for planning lessons based around current affairs and holding oral classes aimed at enhancing the students’ grasp of English with a native speaker.
Cross-section of current students
Private Students: Ongoing as of November 2016
I have provided examples of my existing student base rather than a comprehensive list since there are too numerous to detail individually.
Student A: KS2, aged 9 years
I have been employed on an ongoing basis to provide support for a primary school student struggling with syntax and grammar. Although a bright student, they have difficulty structuring their sentences appropriately and the student’s parents feel that not enough grammatical support is offered in school.
Student B: KS3, aged 13 years
Student B is bilingual, speaking both English and French fluently, and is struggling with basic linguistic conventions in both his written and spoken English. As I am able to speak both English and French I have been working across the two languages to help the student improve their written and spoken English whilst developing a good grounding grammatically. Together we are working towards a move from International School into the mainstream UK school system.
Student C: KS3, aged 15 years
Student C struggles with dyslexia and requires support for GCSE English. As such, I have developed a programme to help them work through the curriculum whilst also providing support in structuring written work and grammar.
Student D: KS4, aged 17 years
I am assisting Student D in their French and English Literature A level preparation. Though an able student, they were unfortunately unwell during their GCSEs and, as such, require some support to attain the grades of which they are capable.
